I awoke, heart, pounding in my chest. Were they all dead? Am I dead?
I looked all around. No fire, no firemen, no house.
I sighed. Just that stupid dream again.
Getting out of my purple velvet bed, I did my usual morning routine. I went to the bathroom, and took a shower, while doing so washing my face and brushing my teeth and hair. Afterward, I put clothes on, a soft white dress with a sash and short sleeves.
It was when I checked the paper that everything changed.
On the ads page, a slip of paper fell out. It said:
Congratulations, Melody Pianissima! You've won your very own mansion! Follow the map below to find your prize!
I was shaken. The picture was of the Pianissima Mansion.
The very mansion that all my loved ones had died in two years ago.
I tried my very hardest not to drop the slip. The more I stared at the picture, the more I saw the tragedy that it had caused me. I saw the fire consuming the house, along with everyone that I'd ever loved. I smelled the smoke and felt the scorching heat from the hungry flames. I tasted death in my mouth like I was going to vomit.
Then I realized I was going to vomit. I made my way to the bathroom and threw up in the toilet.
When I returned to the kitchen, the slip was carefully placed on the table, even though I'd dropped it at least four to five seconds ago. Chills went down my spine. The sun had risen, but questions swam in my mind like fish in a bowl on a clear pristine night. I paused, holding the slip in my hands. I put on my coat.
I was going to get answers.
I was finally going home after five years.
