Convincing the guards to take her to Paul was no easy feat.
Under strict orders from the young master, they were completely torn between their orders and their duty when Sairose decided to slam her door and walk past them in haste. As the young lady of the house, they could not touch her and they were sure their heads would be on spikes by morning if they left her to fend for herself. So, they walked silently behind her quaking in fear as Sairose's feet moved closer and closer to Paul's chambers.
Sairose knew getting them in trouble was simply cruel, but she feared if she sat in her room another day without an answer, she would surely go mad. She was just as nervous as they were. She didn't know how Paul would react to her disobeying him and his father's command. She steadied her breathing for a moment before she lightly knocked on the gold trimmed doors, but it quickened to an uneasy pace when she heard feet shuffling towards the door.
When the door opened, she could finally see the familiar green eyes she had missed over the past few weeks as he peeked through a sliver of the open doorway. She couldn't deny that she missed seeing Paul. He had this way of pulling her to him no matter how many times she told herself it was best to give up and stay away. His curls were a bit ruffled, but not unruly. His torso was missing the usual tunic and his porcelain skin shined under the lights in the hallway. He really was a sight to behold even in the middle of the night.
His eyes studied Sairose's face briefly before hardening and directing his attention to the nearest guard.
"Why is she not in her room?" he demanded.
Sairose had never seen Paul this way. Sure, she had seen him and Gurley spar many times before, but that room was controlled and back then Paul, to her, seemed practically harmless. Now, she was seeing the leader in Paul. He was becoming the man the Duke was grooming him to be- the future leader of House Atreides. It made her uncomfortable to hear a threatening tone leave such pretty lips and it reminded her of the dark tone he had with the assailant before his death. She did not like seeing this side of Paul.
"S-She wanted to see y-you Sir." the guard said, shakely.
"That still does not answer my question and I do not like to repeat myself." Paul warned. The guilt had become crippling as she realized that Paul was very upset and that this could potentially cost this man his honor, rank, and life.
"Please, don't be upset with him. I just wanted to see you." she said quickly and it worked to bring paul's attention back to her. The words felt rather foolish once they left her mouth. She had risked her guards' livelihood and reputation to see him and it made her feel like a child who needed to grow up, " I wanted to talk, privately." she almost whispered.
He waited a moment almost as if he was pondering whether it was best to oblige her or send her back. He sighed and opened the door a bit wider. She slid by him, careful not to touch him as she feared Paul would bring his wrath down upon her too.
"Go back to your station and I'll deal with you two tomorrow." he said with a harsh closing of the door.
Paul's chambers were similar to her's just as she had imagined, but a bit bigger. His room had a sitting area that sat directly across from his fireplace and to the left of the doorway. He had a small bar, dresser, and wardrobe to the right of the doorway. There was a door on the left wall that she figured led to his bathroom. He had two entrances to his terrace and she could see the stars shining brightly in the night sky. She had missed being able to stare at the constellations and the moons of planet Caladen. Since being trapped in that dungeon they called a room, she had become aware of the aspects of Caldan that she actually liked. She couldn't help but stare at the grand bed that lay untouched between the two entrances. Just like hers, the sheets were rolling in silk and feather filled pillows. One day, she and Paul would share their marriage bed there, she thought. She began to feel more nervous about this rash decision.
