A/N: Hi guys. I'm sorry for the delay in updating. Lately I've been out of it. Life has definitely taken a blow at my mental health. But anyway, I'm back and ready to give you guys a chapter. It might be short but I think it's kinda good. Enjoy lovies.
Carter and I arrive at our floor and it's even more beautifully decorated compared to the other floor that I used to be on. I walk behind Carter and watch as he greets everyone that walks by. We approach a blonde-haired woman sitting behind the reception desk and she gives us a smile. "Good morning Mr Adams. Is this your new assistant?" she asks. I sheepishly nod my head and smile up at her. "Please, call me Rio," I tell her. She smiles back at me and looks back down at her computer. "Your office is right down the hall from Mr Adams' office" she instructs me. "Thank you, Annie," Carter says and gives her a panty-dropping smile. I couldn't help but feel a bit of jealousy rise within me. He isn't mine so I shouldn't be feeling this way right? I put the feeling behind me and walked after Carter. "So when did you make this transfer?" I asked him. The bitter tone in my voice was evident. It's not that I don't want to work with him, I just find it odd that he transferred me to work with him. "When you left after the meeting, I went to James', your boss, office. We spoke and then I offered him to transfer our assistants. He was adamant at first but he was happy nonetheless." he explained. I simply nodded and diverted my eyes to the room ahead of us. My name stood on a gold plaque on the door and I opened it. My office was breath taking. Nothing was out of place. It was beautifully decorated with plants and modern art. I thick cherry wood desk was placed in the centre of the office with two plush leather seats in front of it. An iMac computer stood on the desk with files next to it. I waked into the office, slowly approaching my desk. I ran my finger over the wooden desk and smiled. "You like, bella?" he asked. For the first time, I heard him speak in his native tongue. I knew he had an accent but I didn't think much of it. "I love it" I said with a smile. He walked over to me and placed his hand on the small of my back, while he guided me out of my office to show me around the new floor. We ended up back in his office, discussing the work for today. "As my assistant, you are required to be at every meeting I attend. It will be the same as working for Mr Richards, minus the stress. You are able to decide when your breaks will be. All the work you need is on your desk. The dates that I need them by is clearly labelled on the folder. If you need any help, I am right down the hall." he tells me with a smile. I look into his beautiful, captivating eyes and feel a blush creep up to my cheeks. "Thank you" I say and get up to leave but am stopped by a masculine hand placed on top of mine. "I-uh-I" he stuttered. "Yes?" I questioned. "Nothing" he said as he let go of my hand and watched as I exited his office. I briskly walked to my office and shut my door and locked it once I entered. I released sigh and walked over to my desk. What did he really want to say? I started up my computer and started working on the files that had been placed in front of me. Most files were fairly easy compared to the files Mr Richards gave me. Throughout the day, I kept Carter and I's contact minimal. We only spoke when we had to, Help me with the cases or sign certain papers. I would often leave without saying another word or before e can even say anything to me. My lunch time finally rolled around and I made my way to the café downstairs. I grabbed my purse and made my way to the elevators and pressed the button. The elevator arrived and I stepped in. My attention was fully taken by my phone, I didn't even notice the large figure standing next to me. "Avoiding me?" the deep voice asked, Echoing through the elevator. The sound made me jump and send a shiver down my spine at the same time. I looked up and saw Carter staring down at me with a tint of annoyance in his eyes. He doesn't want me to ignore him. "You're not though. You keeping your relationship strictly professional. There is no time for friends" the voice in my head said. "I'm not avoiding you Mr Adams. I'm just working." I told him, my voice shaky. He just nodded his head, clearly not buying my excuse. "Are you going to the café?" he asked. I hummed in agreement and proceeded to step out, leaving Carter to stand there alone. In the back of my head, I knew that he was following behind me and it formed a smile on my lips. I entered the café and ordered myself an iced coffee and chocolate brownie. The barista waited as I searched for my card in my purse. "And I'll have a black coffee and a donut" Carter said to her as he handed his card over to her. I stared up at him dumbfounded as the barista gave his card back and he looked at me and winked. "You didn't have to do that" I scolded him. "I'm your boss. I can do it if I want" he said in a stern manner. I rolled my eyes and walked over to the collection side of the café to wait. He followed me and stood behind me. "How's the work going? Is it too much?" he asked. My lunch break was meant for me to relax, not talk about work. I sighed and looked over at him, "The work is fine. I'm managing quite well" I replied. He smiled down at me but quickly averted his gaze to the barista who called our names. We grabbed our coffees and food and made our way back up to our office. "Would you like to have lunch on my office?" he asked me with hopeful eyes. "Sure" I said staring up into his eyes. We walked to the elevator and stepped inside. The elevator arrived at our floor and we stepped out, making our way to his office. He opened the door for me and I stepped inside. He walked in after me and closed the door. "Please, have a seat Rio." he said and I obliged. I took a seat at one of the leather couches on the side of his office and spoke about work while I happily took a bite of my brownie. I let out a soft moan, while looking at Carter. His eyes became dark and he licked his lips. "Don't test me. I will bend yo-" he said before he got cut off by the door swinging open. A high pitched voice rang throughout the office and our focus shifted towards the source of the sound. "Hey baby" a brunette woman said. She's beautiful, like a goddess. The maroon dress complimented her tanned skin. I instantly felt a wave of insecurity wash over me. I watched as she wrapped her arms around Carters neck. "Malia, this is Rio, my assistant" he introduced me. "Hi" I replied softly. I looked into her piercing grey eyes and felt myself shrink under her gaze. "I'm Malia, Carters Fiancé" she said... Fiancé? What the fuck?
