It was a semi cloudy day and Butterfly was on their way to the library. It had been a few days since Loki joined the school. Rumors had started to go around the school because no one had ever joined Butterfly for library lunch and not been told to leave. Yet Loki is there everyday and nobody knows why Butterfly lets him.
It was Sunday, October 15th. It was a bit cold, but being part demon means that Butterfly is basically a heat source. They just turned the corner and saw Loki shivering. Butterfly ran up to catch up to her. “Hey!” Butterfly said.
“Hi Butterfly, it's nice to see you outside of school, where are you going?” Loki asked.
“I’m heading to the library. Are you ok? You're shivering really badly.” Butterfly asked worriedly.
“I'm going there too and I’m just really cold,” Loki replied. Before they know what they are doing Butterfly took off their leather jacket and handed it to Loki.
Loki looked surprised “I can't take it, it's the only jacket you have with you”.
“Take it Loki. The cold doesn't bother me, in fact I'm kind of hot.” Butterfly stated. Loki looked skeptical but took the jacket and again looked very surprised.
“Wow, it's very warm. Thank you, Butterfly. Just tell me if you get cold. Remember when you told me to tell you when my pronouns change well, it's she/her today” Loki said.
“Ok, that's good to know,” Butterfly said. To be honest Butterfly knew their jacket would be warm. A long time ago they cast a spell to keep it that way, even though they were not supposed to use magic.
“You know even though I sit with you at lunch I know almost nothing about you.” Loki stated. “Why don't we ask questions while we walk to the library?”.
“I guess, but I'm not really interested,” Butterfly said.
“Ok, let’s start easy, what's your favorite color? Mine’s green.” Loki began.
“Same. What's your favorite animal? Mine’s a cat?” Butterfly asked.
“Snakes are so pretty. Oh, looks like we are here” Loki said and sure enough they were at the library. Both walk inside and put the old book in the return bucket then split up to go find new books.
Butterfly went to the adventure section. After a few minutes with nothing standing out, they were about to go to the next aisle when a book fell on their head. “Owww, that hurt!” Butterfly exclaimed. They took a good look at the book shimmering with magic glitter or in other words, what they can sense is their dad's magic. “Dad what in the love of hell” they mumbles. They get up and grab the book and it did not belong in the adventure section, it belonged in the romance. The book title read ‘How To Tell If You're In Love’. “What the…? Why Dad? Why would you, you know I won’t ask, but I'm not in love” they mumbles again. They put the book on the shelf and tried to walk away, but once again it hit them in the head. “Fine, I'll read it”. They pick it up again and grab another book from the adventure section at random and head to the check out where they see Loki just finishing the check out process.
“Oh there you are,” Loki said. Once I finished the check out and left the building Loki asked, “Are we going to walk back to where we met up together?”
“Sorry but I can't,” Butterfly said.
“Ok here is your jacket.” Loki began to take it off.
“Keep it. It's still cold out. You will need it. I won't. You can return it tomorrow.” Butterfly said walking away before Loki could argue, “Bye.”
“Goodbye, see you tomorrow!” Loki yelled.
Later that night Butterfly was sitting on their bed reading “How To Tell If You're In Love” and boy they were panicking. They had a lot of the symptoms. “How could this be happening? I'm a heartless being.” By the time they finished that book it was 3:00 am. “SATAN, am I ever going to be tired tomorrow.” They put the book away and turned off the light but Butterfly could not get to sleep. They keep thinking about Loki and all the things that could go wrong. Before they came up with a plan they would take it slow to see how Loki reacted to things. For now that was the plan. Butterfly was finally able to fall asleep. Hopefully tomorrow will be great.
