Akira:

Knowing where the lockers were, I briskly walked there to find some students busy placing their books into their lockers. Well, I wasn’t that early, I guess.

The lockers looked amazing. Its metal doors were a part of a large graffiti that covered the entire set of lockers. I stood in the aisle, studying the doodles. In my entire life, I had never thought a school could be artistic. Its graffiti included vivid representations of the four houses.

I unlocked my locker with my Accord Card to find a red belt with an ID card holder hooked onto it. I had been selected into the House Wallace. The red one!

Delighted, I wore the ID card around my neck and hurriedly set my books into my locker. It took me a while to pull out my History textbook from the whole stack textbooks since, it was so heavy. Well, all the textbooks were. I guess, they weren’t only trying to scare us when they were saying that S5 was going to be a challenging year.

By the time I finished placing my books, it was about 10 minutes past 8. Well, I still had more than twenty minutes to spare. So, I took the objective of finding my History class rather coolly, ready to explore the block.

At first, I came to realise that this school was way larger than I had thought it would be. Many a times, as I climbed to the upper floors, I felt the directions provided would be insufficient.

I did find many people stare at me for a while. Maybe, they must have got to know this was my first day at Mac Alastair or maybe that I am Asian. God, I hate this.

The large campus did not seem so frightening once I explored the corridors. Indeed, they were quiet and well-lit, but, it seemed inviting since the walls had been painted. Of course, this school wasn’t new but, it did look like one. Hearing low murmurs, I rushed to peep into the library.

My heart stopped.

It looked breath-taking.

There were computers, free Wi-Fi throughout the entire school, perhaps thousands of books of dozens of genres, amazing collage work on the walls, cool lighting… I never knew a school library can be so interesting. Now, this is what I call I smart idea to reignite the hobby of reading.

They had books of fiction, non-fiction, science, young adult fiction, fantasy, science fiction, documentary, encyclopaedias…. There were many more. Each genre had its own colourful chart and placard.

At one corner of the room, there were four boys playing some card game. Though the library in my previous school was pretty well-equipped, this school superseded it effortlessly. I turned around to find the librarian looking straight at me.

I shrunk at the sight of her. She glanced at me for a while before returning to her files. Not feeling very invited, I crawled out of the library as silently as I could and ran down the passage, heading towards the next section of the block where the classrooms were.

As I explored the school further, checking out the painted walls and the classrooms, I felt much better. Oh man.

It looked pretty different from my previous school, it looked more modern. Mac Alastair proved to have a very awesome appeal to it.

I found my class and peeped through the glass window at the door. There was nobody inside. I stepped into the class and suddenly, the dark room lit up. It was pretty frightening at the first moment because, it felt like I had been caught doing a criminal act. Well, I am not really used to automatic lighting systems.

Once the lights stopped flickering, I sat down on a chair close to the wall. The classroom was located at the corner of the block, so there were windows located at two edges of the classroom. I waited for a while, sitting silently in my place. But, nobody arrived. The silence echoed within the walls of the large room.
