Briars POV"That lion definitely likes you." I was FaceTiming my best friend again. "I'm not kidding this time!"
"Angie, you gotta stop joking around like that!"
"He calls you pet names, unbeliever!"
"Maybe he calls everyone pet names?" I rolled onto my tummy on the big bed where I had been sleeping the past week.
"A mafia Don. A very powerful, dominant, alpha lion. Yeah, I bet he calls everyone little one, or lamb," she scoffed. "I'm sure he babies his victims and henchmen, waiting on them hand and foot."
"Well, maybe he is fond of me but- not like that."
"What if you've stumbled on your mate?!" The bunny gasped, completely ignoring what I'd said. "You'd be set for life hun- and that man definitely has a fat di-"
"Angie!" I screeched, and she cackled wildly.
"I'm just saying!"
"Everything alright in here?"
I jumped, turning over to see Reuben standing over me. That might've been scary if I hadn't grown used to the alpha over the past few days, now he just looked kind of cute, wire reading glasses perched on his handsome nose, long golden mane that hinted at silver strands up in a messy bun. His chest seemed as it would nearly burst the buttons on his shirt and you could near see the shape of his abs under it- goddamn fucking almost 7 foot tall glass of water-
Cute? Christ- that man was fucking gorgeous, dripping in sex appeal- What was I thinking?!!
"What did you hear?" I sat up, flustered.
"You screeching like a bird, seems like you're in one piece, however." He cackled. "Hi Briar's friend," he waved, and she laughed, waving back. I scoffed, they acted as if they'd known each other forever. Reuben, stern, quiet and unfeeling as he seemed sometime, still shared the same energy as my best friend. They didn't actually really talk, but I assumed he was kind to her cause he fancied me.
"Say bye, Angie," I giggled,
"Hey!-" she yelled but I hung up, texting her that I'd chat later.
"Any new news?" I asked him, and he sat down on the lounge couch across the bed.
"Some of my men checked your house, It was a good thing you didn't go back, the gang appear to have gone in again, probably looking for you."
I shivered at the thought of it. Man, I hope they hadn't left it too big of a mess or touched anything important.
As if he'd read my thoughts, the lion handed me a stack of papers. Stuff like my security card info, birth certificate, etc. "I supposed you may need this stuff. Didn't want them to get their hands on it."
"Oh my god, thank you so much," I sighed happily.
"Mhm," he chuffed, seemingly pleased at my happiness. "They haven't made any attempts on my mansion, and probably never will, I'm well protected by the government. They're just lying in wait for you to be out of my protection."
While I missed my old life, I can't say living in luxury wasn't a thing I didn't want. But I don't think Reuben was asking me to stay forever. He was just getting everything back to normal, I'd go home and forget this incident ever happened.
Sure, I wanted to forget the shitty parts of it all- but I didn't want to forget the nice parts.
I found myself not wanting to leave more and more everyday. Something drew me to the lion that used to seem so distant, so powerful. It felt like gravity, as cheesy as that saying was.
