So my friend and I were talking about what kind of pet we'd like to have if we could tame any animal in the world. He said he was indecisive as he couldn't choose between a Lion and a Tiger, I however, instantly responded that I'd want a Wolf. Because of my speedy response, he asked me if I had had similar conversations before and was shocked when I truthfully said I hadn't.
So naturally he asked how I could answer such a question so fast. My response was "Any animal is easy to live with so long as you know how to deal with them, humans included. I just happen to know how to deal with canines and have always wanted a wolf." This then developed into a conversation on how I'd tame them... but once again my answer shocked him.
"I wouldn't." I had said. And I went on to explain how packs work and that the Alpha doesn't have to be a wolf so long as they provide for the pack... and told him that "It's impossible to truly tame any animal. Instead focus on befriending them. Teach them how working and living with humans can bring more benefits than living wild, but that in order to do so, they need to follow our rules. After that it's a simple matter of teaching them our rules in a way they can understand."
Eventually he agreed to it and said I should work at a Zoo. HAH! If I could I'd freaking LIVE at the Zoo with the animals. And then the conversation devolved into how humans become corrupt and politics and shit. But my point is, animals and humans are very alike.
Animals want a safe home, humans can provide one because we want the same and have means of obtaining one. Animals want food, humans can give it to them because we know where to get it. But in order to reap the benefits they have to acknowledge us as 'Alpha of their pack' so-to-speak... just like how we have our 'Alphas' in our Presidents, Kings/Queens, Prime Ministers, etc.!
Yet...
It's rare for anyone to consider themselves an animal these days... hell, some even take it as an insult! However, at the end of the day, we ARE animals. Advanced? Yes. But animals nonetheless...
Think on that.
