I was with my friend, and we were talking about paranormal and past lives, and we decided to take a walk around my block.
As we neared the area closest to the river, I felt calm and had gotten less cautious than I usually am.
She asked why the river water was so dark, and I instinctively stepped forward a bit.
A story she'd heard rang through her mind, and she dragged me away, and we both felt like something was behind us.
I looked over to the light, that we were actually going to go see, and it went out.
It's not supposed to go out.
As we got closer to my house, a story from my mom's side flashed across my mind, so I spoke without thinking.
"Do you believe in Skinwalkers?"
You see, There's a story my brother was told by our great grandma on my mom's side. I was just a baby when she died, so I didn't really know her.
4 boys and 3 girls in my mother's family or friends or whatever went camping.
During the third day they were there, 2 of the girls disappeared.
2 of the boys went down to the lake to fish, and 2 stayed with the last girl around the campfire.
As a joke, one of the guys spread salt around the campsite.
1 of the girls came back to the camp, but at stood just outside the salt line.
The last girl followed her to a so called "amazing Cliffside water fall". One of the boys followed, because he was dating one of the girls.
The last one who stayed at the camp did so because of the weirdness of the girl who returned.
She wasn't acting normally, and she didn't step inside the line of salt.
He heard strange noises from the woods where they left through, and by nightfall, he was terrified.
The 2 boys from the lake returned, but they were glancing behind them and asked if the girls had returned yet.
There was a man watching them by lake, and one of the girls talked to him, before walking up to the campsite.
Which wasn't where she'd came from when talking to them earlier.
They stepped inside the salt line, before asking what it was.
I know the four who walked off disappeared and no ones found any record of them, but I don't know who exactly was the real people in the story.
As we got inside, I told her the story and that my brother always told it to me when I was younger. Making it engraved in my head.
Later that night the candles we had were going out randomly and we were terrified of falling asleep.
She left early the next morning, but when I was awake and aware at 3am I felt like I was being watched.
