HAPPIER - STRANGER THINGS

𝗶𝗶. 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹

When we reached the mall , the parking lot was empty . I wasn't surprised though , it's only 8am and the mall doesn't open until 9. The only few cars there were janitors and workers . Me and Robin both got out of the car . " should we ?" she murmured . I nodded. Me and Robin both sprinted to the entrance before Steve could leave the car .

" hey ! slow down !" He yelled at us and started running full speed . When he finally caught up to us , he was wheezing and coughing , having a fit . Robin patted his back as we entered the mall in our scoops ahoy! uniforms . The mall looked nicer then usually today , a lot brighter and neater .

I walked into the ice cream parlor and started getting ready . After Steve stopped coughing up a hairball , he scoffed . " this stupid hat !" He pointed to the hat on his head . " it's running my chances with the ladies ." Steve groaned .

" yeah , that's what is ruining your chances ." Robin giggled .

as we set our bags down and prepared , the speaker came on .

" ATTENTION WORKERS ! THE STARCOURT MALL WILL BE OPENING IN FIVE MINUTES ."

I sighed and kept getting ready . I'm not sure if anyone goes for ice cream at 9:00 am but if we don't prepare the worst thing that's going to happen is being fired , and my mom would actually kill me and Robin if that happened . when we finished setting up the shop , people already started piling in the shops .

" hey Daph , did you know Dustin came back from camp ?" Steve asked .

" really ?!" I gasped , Dustin was one of my close friends I met in school last year .

" yeah , he came home yesterday . but he didn't stop by to say hi at all ." He said , sounding a little sad .

" wait Dustin ? Like that kid you two always talk about ?" Robin butted in on the conversation .

" yeah ." I nodded . " I think you might like him - - he's kind of a nerd though ." Steve added.

robin didn't say anything , she just nodded .

I started looking out the shop to see people walking around the mall . I mean , I had nothing else to do . But two people caught my eye a ginger and a brunette walking around together , drinks in their hands . After I looked closer , I realized one of them was Eleven .

Eleven and I were pretty close friends , Considering we had the same powers and all . But , she was with another girl . one I barely remember. her name was Max ? I think . But anyways-

" Daphne ?" Some familiar voice greeted me at the counter . " Dustin !" I smiled . " where is Steve ?" He titled his head . " oh - he's right in the back with-"

" HENDERSON !"

Crashing and clanging came from the back . Then , Steve ran out of the room as fastest as he could . He greeted Dustin with a big hug . they really cared for each other , a lot .

" how was camp ?" I asked .

" oh it was great !" Dustin grinned . All three of us started up a conversation for a bit catching up and things . " uh guys ?" Dustin broke the conversation and pointed to the long line of people waiting for ice cream . "shit !" I said , under my breath .
