Chapter 2

I gazed out the window overlooking the water. The town below looked so small from high up in the castle. They are so lucky to live normal lives. I backed away from the window and turned to my bed. Huge blankets and millions of small pillows laying perfectly. What a ridiculous waste of money.

I walk over to my bed and flop down. The mattress sinks beneath me. I am wearing a thin, light, blue dress that falls just next to my sides, with a sweet heart bodice. My mother would freak if she saw me in this on a regular day. If it was her way, I'd sleep in a ball gown.

Almost on cue she knocks on my door. "Delaney, open your door. It's your mom." Well no duh, I though it was a talking dragon. I walk over and open the door. Her gasp is immediate. "What in earth are you wearing!" She pushes me into my room and shuts the door. "No no no this isn't right. You can't wear something so simple. Let me find you a nice big dress." My eyes almost roll into the back of my head. "Mom how many times do I have to tell you I hate dresses. Especially big ones." She ignores me and continues to look through the closet twice as big as my room. "No this isn't it.This is the wrong color, hmmm too short." She said to herself. She pulled a dress from one of the racks and shoved it into my hands. It was identical to the one I had on, but with a million more layers of poof and a this one was navy blue. "Beautiful, yes?" I didn't smile, however she did. "Get dressed and walk around looking pretty." I stared at her, not moving. She smiles once more and walked out.

I put the dress back in my closet. I never wear big dresses when I don't have too. And that's almost never. I go to the back of my closet in the far left corner. Tucked away behind some more clothing was a bag. Inside was money, money, and some more money. More than enough to get to the island with more for a house and any other essentials. The only problem right now, is getting out of the castle.

I roll over and look at the ceiling. It's dark outside and castle is quiet. Removing the silk blankets and silk sheets, I walk over to my window and open it. The fresh night air hits my face and the breeze makes the hairs on my arms stand up. My nightgown moves slightly and my hair shifts. The large village below is lit up from street lights and the stars shine above. It's a beautiful late summer night.

However tomorrow morning will not be.  Because I will be gone. I go into the back of my closet and grab my bag of money. I exit the closet and place the bag on my bed before changing my clothes. I put on black leggings and a dark blue t-shirt. I enter my bathroom and put my hair up in a low ponytail. I look like an average teen girl. Perfect.

I sling my bag over my shoulder and creak open my door. I glance left, then right. The halls are completely empty. I close my door and cringe at the loud bang. It's now or never. I speed walk at first, but then I'm running. Running and running down stairways, through halls, and around curves. As my shoes clap against the floor I hear it starting to rain outside. Great. I run down one final flight of stairs and I'm at the main entrance. The guards stare at me in confusion and my body tenses. That is until I realize they have to listen to me. "Excuse me. Open the doors please." The guards exchange glances before opening the big wide doors. The rain hits my face and I enjoy it. A guard holds out an umbrella but I decline his gesture. And the journey begins.
