As David and Pierre pulled back up to David’s dad’s house, they noticed another car parked in the driveway. David’s face went blank as he looked over to the window, noticing two, dark figures moving awfully close to one another. Pierre and David exchanged glances, both with the same thought in mind: girlfriend. “Great,” David muttered as he stepped out of the car. “Another new parent figure in my life,” he continued, closing the card door, and walking across the lawn slowly. “Just what I fucking need.”

“Maybe it’s just a friend,” Pierre offered, jogging to catch up with David.

“Don’t be naive!” David snapped, turning back to look at Pierre with a dull, yet fiery look in his eyes. “He told me he had something important to talk to me about.”

Pierre sighed and shrugged his shoulders. “Maybe she’ll be nahce...”

David stopped and looked at Pierre, a serious look on his face. “He doesn’t pick ‘nice’ women,” he started, before turning around and opening the front door.

“Yer mama’s a nahce lady...” Pierre said, following David inside and closing the door behind him.

David laughed and shook his head. “To you, maybe... but don’t forget, I had to get it somewhere,” David pointed out. Pierre sighed and shook his head, deciding it would be better to just leave it alone. “Daaad!” David called. There was a loud clang from the kitchen, drawing both of the boy’s attention toward that area of the house. “Dad?” David and Pierre walked slowly into the kitchen, both slightly surprised to see Charles standing there, his hair ruffled and his cheeks pink. But what was more shocking was the tall, limber, brown haired man standing next to him.

“Hey, kid,” Charles said, laughing nervously.

David’s mouth slowly dropped open, and a quiet laugh escaped from the back of his throat. “Oh my god,” he said quietly, looking from his father, to this new mystery man standing in his father’s kitchen.

“Whut?” Pierre asked innocently, looking from the two men, down to David.

“Like father, like son...” David muttered, before slowly turning and walking away.

“Whuuut?” Pierre continued, giving both men a polite wave as he left the room after David.

Charles turned to the man, trying to hold back the amused smile on his lips. “Well, I think he took that rather well,” he decided with a quick nod of his head. The two men just stared at each other for a second, before simultaneously bursting into hearty laughter.

David laid back in the bed after having changed into pajama bottoms, his feet hanging over the edge and his hands resting casually on his stomach, as he stared up at the ceiling. “Wow...” he whispered, not quite sure what to think of his father being a homosexual. “Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, I guess...” he muttered, closing his eyes and sighing quietly.

“Whut apple?” Pierre asked as he walked back into the room he would be sleeping in, and threw his wet clothes on the top of his bag.

“Don’t you get it?” David asked, propping himself up on his elbows, and smiling goofily at Pierre.

Pierre shook his head and sat down next to David, laying back in the bed next to him. “Nope,” he said, turning his head to look over at David, who had laid back down next to him. “Get whut?”

David tried to hold in his laughter, but he couldn’t help but snicker at the innocence of his friend. “My dad’s gay,” he whispered.

There was a confused look on Pierre’s face; almost contemplative, even. And within a second, his eyes had gotten wide, and his mouth had dropped open. “Ooooh...” he said quietly, looking back up at the ceiling slowly.
