I stepped out of the cab in my crisp black skirt with a blue silk blouse. I opted for the white button up but Kera swore I looked too stuffy and convinced me the blue scoop neck and color really brought out my personality. So today I am “supposed” to look down to earth and fun yet business-minded.  When in reality my stomach was in knots and I was stress sweating. From looking back at the cab window I could tell the humidity already did its damage on my locks.

“Just great.” I sighed.

I turned around to face my destination and all I seen were windows.  It looked like they would never end. Reaching and expanding until all you seen when you looked up was the reflection from the sun. It was a very impressive building but not too showy. There were four sets of revolving doors with flows of people coming in and out. I always got nervous around revolving doors. I have the same awkwardness when it came to escalators as well. Maybe Im just petrified of anything that I could make myself look like an idiot in public.   I am not the most graceful but there was no other way in. It didn’t help Kera stuffed me in these heels either. I approached the doors and tried my best to go with the flow of traffic. It didn’t look so bad and I made it through without a scratch. Crisis averted. After walking through the metal detector I made my way to the sprawling receptionist desk where the few secretaries were pointing out directions or answering phone calls. The reception area itself was massive with white polished tiles mahogany desks and furniture.  There was also a lone chandelier that hung down sending shards of light throughout the room. Everything about the building was beautiful and was nothing less than luxury. I was definitely out of my comfort zone. My family wasn’t broke but we weren’t rolling in cash either.  My mom is an accountant, and when my parents divorced when I was young my mom also got a nice alimony check. She never talked about my dad or what he did for a living and I was too young to remember him.  I always resented him for never trying to contact me.

“Hi, welcome to the Grant Building. How may I direct you?”  the receptionist stated.

“Hi, I’m looking for Littman & Reese Real Estate?”

“Head to the left towards the elevators and you will go up to floor number twenty-two. Once you arrive there will be another receptionist to greet you.” she said as she waved me on.

I thanked the receptionist and headed toward the elevators. Once inside I seen my floor was already in queue and thankfully there was only a few people inside. As I stepped out of the elevator and I was in another reception area similar to the main floor but smaller. The few people behind me filed out carrying boxes and checked in with the secretary. The smell of Thai food hit me and I realized how hungry I was. I waited my turn for the secretary and I took that time to gaze around. Behind the reception desk there was a view of other skyscrapers littering the horizon. It would have been beautiful if I wasn’t slightly nervous about heights. I guess that’s the small town girl in me. I would have to get over it sooner or later though and today seemed like the day to start. I walked around the desk to the sitting area behind it and held my breath as I looked out the window. When I was satisfied I had my fill of heights I took notice to the rest of the décor. Leather chairs with glass and metal stands. The décor was even industrial with the lack of color and straight lines. It felt very modern and crisp, yet cold.

“Can I help you?” the secretary asked curtly. I whirled around and made my way back to the receptionist desk.
