CHAPTER 3
The next morning, I wake to find Simon lying almost completely on top of me. I rub his head and he stirs a little. “Simon, time to get up, we’ve got a lot to do.” I say and his eyes pop open.

“I’m sorry Jessie, I didn’t mean to do that.” he says sitting up and rubbing his eyes.
“It’s okay Simon but we have a lot to do, go get a shower and dress neatly. We have to go to the office today.” I tell him as I get up and look for a suit to wear. Simon comes behind me and grabs a black pin stripe suit and hands it to me.
“Wear this with a white shirt and blue tie.” He says as he heads to his room.
I take everything to the bathroom and shower and dress. When I come back out Simon is standing there wearing a pair of black dress slacks and a white shirt. I see he is fiddling with his pockets and ask what’s wrong. “My wallet won’t fit in the pockets.” He says huffing a little. I look up and see him holding a long leather wallet with a chain on it. I get the one I bought for him and tell him to try it. He looks down at it and smiles. “Where did you get this?” He asked while he puts his stuff over in it.
“I bought it for you for when you passed your driver’s test.” I say holding up two blue ties and try to figure out which one to wear.
“The dark blue one,” He says giving me a hug. “And thank you for this.” I return it then tie the light blue one around his neck. He blushes so easily. “Where are we going first?” He says rubbing his eyes; he looks so cute doing that. What a second, when did I think someone was cute? I question myself as I shake my head.

“We’ll go to your school first and then the office. After that I need to go by the lawyer’s office.” I look at Simon through the mirror as I brush my hair. He still looks sad. “You can stay here or go with me or I can take you to one of your brother’s house.”  I tell him and put hand on his shoulders as I turn around.
He takes a deep breath and answers he’ll go with me. “I need to get my class work and exams study guides.” I give him another hug and tell him I’ll be in the office when he is ready.

Once I get to the office I quickly open the safe and take out Brian’s will and put it in the briefcase I rarely use. I look at the desk and can still imagine Brian sitting there fusing about what I eat. I need to hire someone to make sure Simon eats right. I add it to my list as Simon comes in.
His eyes are red from crying. “Come here.” I say in a low voice as I open my arms. He doesn’t hesitate and runs into me hugging me tight. I rub his back and tell him it is okay. After a few minutes, I pull away and look down at him. “Anytime you need a hug or just someone to hold your hand I’m here.” I tell him as I force him to look at me.
“You don’t mind?” he questions, “I can get very clinging according to my ex boyfriend.”
“If I start to mind I’ll let you know.” I say and he gives me a smile. Grabbing my arm and says let’s go. I grab my briefcase and follow him to the car after locking up.

When we get to his school I notice a lot of people staring at us. “Does this happen often?” I ask when we reach the office.
He shrugs as it’s an everyday thing. “I’m the only open gay in the school, so they stare whenever I walk in.” We talk to the principal and then his teachers. They gave him a week of from school to deal with his grief. I made sure they had all my numbers so they could reach me.
After leaving the lawyers office, we head to my office building. Simon is really starting to feel the pull of the grief and is very quiet. We walk into the office and I’m greeted by everyone. “I thought you didn’t come here much.” He mentions as we get in the elevator.
“I don’t but your dad made sure everyone knew who I was.” I reply as we walk in the office; Pam, the wonderful super woman that she is, already has a cup of coffee waiting on me.
“Would you like anything, Simon?” She asks Simon and he asks for a soda. I walk in the office and sit my briefcase down. I go though the files on the desk and see that Pam has already pulled everything from the last three board meetings. When Pam comes back in I ask her to set up a meeting to let the employees know about Brian. I ask her to order a pizza for us and she says she’ll get it done.
