April Fool's Love

Chapter four

     My alarm goes off at seven and the phone is ringing. I slap the alarm and grab my phone. "This better be important." I growl out when I see Pam’s number.

     "Sorry boss but the board wants to meet with you today." she says and I groan.

     "Pam I'll give you a thousand dollars to get me out of this." I tell her and she laughs.

     "No can do and if you don't come I will give them your phone number and your address."
     "Pam… that never did work when Brian tried it. It won't work now." I tell her laughing but what she says next shuts me up. 
     "Brian always bluffed I don't so you have a board meeting to attend to." she is one scary woman.

     "Fine tells them it will be held at two or it will have to wait until after the funeral." I tell her before she can make good on her threat.

     "Sure thing, boss." She says sweetly and I hang up the phone and throw it on the table.

     "What's wrong?" Simon mumbles as he sits up and rubs the sleep from his eyes.

     "Work." I tell him then start getting dressed. When I come back out Simon is already dress and waiting on me. "You don't have to go with me if you don't want to." I tell him and he shakes his head no.

     "I don't want to be alone today." he says shyly.

     "I need to go by my college first after we get something to eat." We are able to find a diner close to my college and afterwards we go to my school. I show Simon around as we head to the advisory offices. Once I tell my advisor what’s going on he sets me up on what online courses he could. I will only have to come to one class twice a week. Simon asks about the different accounting courses offer and we leave with a bunch of pamphlets. 
     Once we get to the office Pam is waiting on us in the parking lot. "Alright Pam, what now?" I question as I sit my brief case down.

     "Nothing much those four we were watching finally slipped up." She says handing me the report. I read it as I sit at my desk. I ask Pam to call them to my office and to watch Simon as I take care of this. I talk with each on and end up firing three of them. The fourth one was being blacked mailed by the other three. I demoted him and took some of his pay.

     I call Pam in and ask her to see about hiring three new people, but she already has files in her hand and hands them to me. I quickly glance over them and see that Brian had already picked his favorites. I hand her four back and ask her to set up interviews with them for next week. "Will do boss, anything else you need." I look to the clock and see it's almost lunch time.   "Ask Simon what he wants for lunch and order me the same thing. Once the food comes you can take your lunch." I hand her a bunch of twenties to pay for our food and hers. She tries to hand it back but I refuse. "Don't worry about it Pam, just except it and send Simon in." I tell her as I sit at my desk and go through the files of the last board meeting. 
     Simon comes in and looks over my shoulder asking what I'm doing. "I'm going over the notes for the last board meeting. Do you want to go with me or stay in my office?" I ask him and he gets a big smile.
     "I would like to sit in, if that’s okay." he says shyly and I nod. 
     Pam knocks on the door and brings our food in and I warn her to go to lunch. She salutes me and leaves. As we eat I explain a little about how a board meeting works. We also talk a little about Simon’s college choices. "Have you decided where you want to go?"
     "I'm still thinking about it. I've already have an acceptance letter for here and a college out of state, but I don't know which one to choose.”

     “I will support you in which ever one you chose, just if you need to talk about it I'm here." I tell him as Pam knocks on the door, it is a little before two. I stand still and try to calm my nerves and Simon starts laughing. "It looks like you are fixing to face a firing squad." He says holding his stomach.
