Since when Sanem was born the Divits felt a special affection towards her for they longed for a daughter that they could not have. After Can's birth, there were a lot of complications that resulted in the Divit Couple not having any more children of theirs except one that they had before the ovarian surgery of Mrs Mihirbaan Divit took place. As a result, Mr and Mrs Divit found solace whenever they took Sanem in their laps. She was the girl they never had. Leila, the elder Aydin, was also close to them but the most favourite one was always our dear heroine. So when finally they got the good news of the wedding knocking on the door they could not resist giving a hand in the organisation. But here it did not end for Mrs Divit intended to do something more to celebrate and share her joy with everyone else, so she decided to throw a small family party to have a delightful get-together with everyone.
The Aydins and a few more neighbours were invited along with Leila and her husband, Emre to the celebration arranged just five days back to the most awaiting day of the wedding.
Everyone arrived late in the evening to have a charming time to spend when Sanem felt a little irritated to hear all their gossips. Though the arrangements were for her no one laid any focus on her instead they were busy in regular chatters. While the male group was involved in talking about politics and social events around, the women on the other hand pertained to mainly concentrate on the subject of make-up, jewellery and modern-day fashion. As the wedding bell was about to be ring they could not find any more topic that might be more important to discuss right now. Naturally, Sanem was having a tedious time altogether as she was bound to nod and smile when some attention from the ladies she received. She was looking for some respite when she remembered, "Wait! Where is Can by the way?"
Like every weekday Can had been at the office and she watched him returning home from her roof. But when she came to the Divit's apartment he was nowhere to be seen. She was about to ask but someone interrupted her then and she forgot to enquire about it later. But now when every face seemed to her monotonous and dull and the discussion around was making her yawn she came to Mihiriban who was stirring the ladle to warm up soup before serving it as she implored, "Aunty, where is Can? I can't see him anywhere."
"Oh, Sanem." In response, Mrs Divit clicked her tongue emphatically as she explained, "Please don't ask me about him. He gets on my nerves all the time. I told him to take leave for today. But he couldn't. Then when he returned I called him for help but he retorted, 'Don't be fussy, Mom. I have works to be done." Next, he closed the room with a thud. Such a rude boy I have given birth to."
"Oh, Aunty, I am sorry." Sanem genuinely felt pity as she interrogated again, "Is he still in his room?"
"Of course not. The master is in the attic." Then something happened to Mihirban as her eyes brightened up when she left the ladle as it was and clasped Sanem's arms, pleading her almost, "Oh, Sanem!!! I need you." Being completely surprised Sanem shrugged her shoulder when Mihirban continued, "Go to the attic and take him down. By God, why didn't I think it before? You are his best friend and he couldn't overrule you, could he? I don't think so. Please, Sanem, can you do this for me?"
"Well..." She took some time to think about then she replied instantly, "I may give it a try but I can not promise because you know your son's stubbornness is hard to melt."
With a sly smile, Mihirban nodded as she said, "yeah, I do. But I believe if there is anyone who can lead him to do what he does not want that's only you, sanem. Please go and take my boy here."

Nowadays, her heart pounded a lot whenever she faced her best friend. She had not yet succeeded to find an answer for such absurdity behind this kind of reaction she evolved but one thing she knew for sure and that was— something was not right between them. Yet, she had not grown the nerves to discuss and solve the issue. Instead, it seemed best to avoid. So, she promised herself before taking the staircase that she would not force him to do anything while playing her role as his best friend.
