After searching the vicinity for more than an hour, (y/n) could proudly conclude, "This is going nowhere."
They started off with a positive mind, surviving Shy Guy and all, but went pessimistic when they couldn't find a single 'Class B', let alone any card key.
The option to venture further back was still open, but the gunshots and bone-chilling cries were enough to label it as the "last straw".
'Which is what I have to grab right now,' (y/n) thought, taking a big breath in and sighing it all out.
The MTF personnel currently fighting the SCPs were more than likely to have a Class B card key. The one that Shy Guy "spaghetti-ed" unfortunately had a Class C card, but at least one of them had to have a Class B to move between Units.
'If I can just sneak away with the card from a corpse or something...' (y/n) thought, nervously creeping forward into the dark.
Clank!
Just then, the sound of concrete falling echoed from behind. Every strand of hair stood up in alert as (y/n) slowly turned around. There was nothing in sight, and no other sounds came after.
"...Stupid gravity," (y/n) muttered, thinking it was just rubble falling to the floor. Shy Guy was careful not to step on any debris afterward.
(y/n) continued on for a while, inching closer to where the gunshots were resounding from. The cries and screams getting louder and louder started testing their will.
'Why am I even trying?' (y/n) said inside, thinking about the obvious future. 'If an SCP finds me, I'm dead. If the MTF finds me, I might be dead. Dead, dead, dead.'
Captured by negative thoughts, (y/n) didn't realize how close they were getting to the sight of conflict.
'I should've listened to the Bible. Why did I think associating with a devil was a good idea? Fuck him.'
Bang, bang bang!
'Besides, who even cares about his "grand plan" in the first place? Using me as a pawn in his game, I swear-'
Bang!!
The loudest gunshot by far was enough to get (y/n) back in the right mind. It was weird - how were they so immersed in their thoughts when the gunshots were so close?
However, (y/n) didn't have the time to contemplate anymore. They hid behind a corner of the wall, peeking over to see a fallen MTF personnel. It was time to test their luck.
Carefully sneaking over, almost crawling, (y/n) reached into the vest and pockets in search of the card key. With all the random spaces, it took some time to find it.
'Yes!' (y/n) thought, finally pulling out a card key. It was labeled Class C. 'Shit.'
Looking around, there was another dead MTF just around the corner. It was now or never, right?
Crawling over in the same fashion, (y/n) dug around for the card key, this time finding it rather quickly. They turned the card over to read the class, labeled 'Class B'.
"I, I did it..!" they whisper-yelled, just in time to have 2 guns pointed straight at them.
"Freeze!" one of the MTF yelled, gaining the attention of all the other members. Now a dozen guns were shoved in (y/n)'s direction. "Put your hands up and drop the card!"
(y/n) raised their hands in response, but couldn't bring themselves to drop the card key. They'd gone through all this bullshit just for the jackpot. 'Let it go?' To (y/n), it sounded more like 'Go to hell.'
"Drop it before we open fire, D Class!"
Biting down on their lips, (y/n) clenched their eyes shut and lifted a finger off the card. Could they outrun a dozen soldiers with guns? No.
However, just when (y/n) decided to give up the card, the MTF was first to run out of patience.
"Get rid of them."
