You Are My Sunshine | Chongyun x Reader

Blood. Blood everywhere. All over the ground. All over his clothes. And all Chongyun could think about was finding you. Bodies littered the ground around him, but that wasn't important to him. What was important to him was you.

"(Y/n)? (Y/n)!" He called for you.

When he saw you, you had been shot by an arrow from the enemy, and were lying to the ground. Chongyun ran up to you, starting to cry. "(Y/n)! (Y/n)!"

"Chongyun..."

"(Y/n)! Hang on, I'm going to take you to the medical tent!"

"Chongyun, no. You'll be too late. Just... just do one more thing for me."

Chongyun's breath hitched in his throat before nodding. "What is it?"

"That song I sang to you all the time, the one from when we were kids. I want you to sing it to me."

Chongyun sniffled and took a deep breath. "You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are gray. You'll never know, dear, how much I love you." He sang.

You joined in at the final line. "Please don't take my sunshine away." And with that, you were gone.

It seemed like the world had stopped. Chongyun cried and cried, as if it was going to bring you back.

They're gone... They're gone, and it's my fault... I'm so stupid...

"Mr. Chongyun! Can you sing us that song again?"

"Which one?"

"The one that you sing all the time. The one about the sunshine!"

Chongyun stiffened. It had been years since he had last sang it to anyone, except you at your grave.

"What's wrong Mr. Chongyun? You started crying."

Chongyun quickly wiped his tears. "I-it's nothing! Of course I can sing it to you, but you have to promise something."

"Yes sir!"

"You have to promise to keep it to you dearly, and sing it to everyone you love dearly."

"I promise!" The small child responded.

Chongyun smiled softly and cleared his voice. "You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are gray. You'll never know, dear, how much I love you. Please don't take my sunshine away."
