Emery's POV:
Another morning sunrise awoke me from my restless night of sleep. I spent all night worrying about what Tom was going to say during potions after catching me staring at him last night. Hopefully it wouldn't be too bad. But he was Tom Riddle after all, a guy who almost killed a first year student in our third year for breathing too loud when he was trying to work in the library. Don't ask, it's a long story.
I rolled out of bed swinging my feet to the cold flood making me flinch back for a second. I made my way over to my wardrobe and pulled out my collared white shirt, Slytherin sweater vest, and a skirt. I took my oversized hoodie off and shrugged into my white button up leaving the first two unbuttoned for a less formal look. I then slipped the sweater vest over my head, straightening my white shirt underneath. I put on my skirt and straightened everything out in the mirror before quickly brushing my hair and walking back to my wardrobe.
I took my green and silver striped tie out and tied it around my neck tucking it under my collar. Then I looked for my necklace with a silver pendant attached to it saying Riviere bearing my family's crest. I put in some matching silver earrings and slipped on my shoes walking down the hallway with my backpack slung over my shoulder.
When I finally had made it to the great hall and Claire waved me towards our usual seat at the end of the table. I sat next to her and grabbed a waffle drenching it in syrup and pouring a glass of orange juice. "You always wake up so late," Claire complained, rolling her eyes dramatically.
I laughed and responded "I need my beauty sleep. How else do you think I look like this?" My hand flipped my hair behind my shoulder in a sarcastic movement earning a laugh from Claire and another deep laugh. I looked beside Claire and didn't even notice Nate Thorn was sitting there.
Nate was practically one of my first friends ever. His family is a high ranking pureblood family like mine so we often found ourselves running around during events when both of our parents dragged us along to them. He's more of a laid back chill type of guy. When you first saw him you'd think he'd be all tough and rude but he's a real softie at heart.
"Nate! I forgot to say hi yesterday. I feel like such a bad friend everything was just so hectic and-" I started to say but got cut off.
"Em, it's fine. Claire was telling me about everything that happened with Riddle." He smirked at Claire and she smiled back giggling into her hands. I rolled my eyes at them, taking a bite from my waffle.
"So did Riddle really tell you that you were doing something wrong?" He scoffed, sipping from his glass of pumpkin juice. I groaned at the mere memory and nodded my head.
Before I spoke I looked around and leaned into the table, resting my elbows on it to support my weight. "Then he came up behind me and put his hands on mine." I whispered just loud enough for him to hear.
Claire's jaw dropped and shrieked "You didn't tell me that!" causing other people to look in our direction. I widened my eyes at her and she slapped her hand over her mouth. "Shit, sorry" she said, sinking into her seat.
I shook my head at her and laughed a bit. "But enough of me. Nate, how are you doing? I didn't have much time this summer to write, sorry about that." A smile lit up his face and he sat up straighter which meant he was about to tell something he was really excited about.
He smiled at the table before turning his eyes back to me and said "I've got a girlfriend now."
"Who is it?"
"Annalise Visser. She's a Ravenclaw"
"Isn't she the girl who was dating that one Gryffindor Quidditch captain?"
