FIGURE SKATING HAVE A REPUTATION.
A reputation for unforgiving and risky programs to find out the perfect blend of technical elements and artistic creativity among the mortal skaters. It results in chruning out skaters at a young age who strive to climb the higher ranks of technical elements.
But very unfortunately have to retire at a young age due to injuries or simply the mental strain put on the athlete. They're replaced with the younger and less injured skater.
Over the years men have managed to triumph and raised the avergae age of retirement and this moved to the ladies discipline too.
But soon after the Pyeongchang Olympics, Elijah Labèque did the unthinkable. Teaching his female student to successfully learn and compete using quadruple jumps, previously only thought to be possible for men.
Sure it was prompted by his male student's loss at the 2016 world championships, the retirement stage for the student. But hey! It was the idea of the young girl who insisted she be taught quads.
She was so adamant that when refused she tried learning her jump on her own and breaking her wrist at the mere age of twelve. Elijah Labèque did give in to her demands.
It was none other than Cheon Eunbyeol.
Too adamant on achieving stuff no female did. Too adamant on uplifting ladies figure skating. Too much of feminist icon at thirteen.
Too adamant, too resilient, clinging onto her body desperately wishing to push till three olympics.
Elijah found Eunbyeol skating at the rink with her parents, on the brink of ending his career as a choreographer and desperately wanting to switch to coach, he found the girl. Or more like recognized the natural and god gifted talent the girl possessed
The star girl, the perfect skater, thei glory, pride and joy of the federation. She was the flawless combination of all their previous star skaters in 1 one body.
She spun like Annabelle Laurent, She jumped like Ethan Dupont, She's consistent like Estelle Beaumont. She's artistic and creative like Kyra Castillo.
She's all the glory of Zelkon Academy in one. The Olympic favourite. The original student who made Elijah Labèque, the iconic swiss figure skater switch from a choreographer to a coach after his retirement.
Speaking of the Olympics, every Olympics is a sign of the times. It is a showcase for technology and infrastructure, a convention for journalists, diplomats and heads of states. A festival for the fittest people on god's green earth. It is in the best of ways, a carnival of heroic extremes and epic fails. but the women's figure skating games at the 2022 Beijing Olympics were a circus set in a dystopia inspired by the hunger games.
