(??? is narrating) I've been working as a nurse here for who knows how long. I strangely awoke in this.. dream-like realm.. I was guided by a kind woman, she had a head that looked like a round yellow orb, with a large smiley face on it. She took me to a train stop and only I got on board. I felt different.. like I was in a new body. I looked at myself. My whole body was very pale, I had long brown hair and a patient outfit. I got off the train and my career began. I was hired at a ominous sanatorium. The people in this world were very odd, and the entire place was very nostalgic.
Eyes on the walls, mouths on the ceiling, everything was so alien like.. I was given a pink nurse uniform and hat, there was only 4 other nurses that worked there. Their names were Rattail, Dogpaw, Horsehoof, and the leader, Catseye. I'm guessing they were named like this because of their features. The other nurses all had one giant eye for a head, and they had whatever their name was. For example, Rattail has a rat tail, Dogpaw has dog paws, Horsehoof has.. horse hoofs of course, and Catseye has more of a cat pupil on her giant one-eyed head.
As I became more familiar with the environment, I got better at my job. The patients there were mainly teenagers. I hadn't known my name until I got a name tag on my uniform that said, Nurse Kit. What an odd name! From time to time my name tag would flicker something else, it was hard to read because of how fast it flickered. From what I could see, it looked like it said Ruby. I eventually ignored it, I thought that it might have just been an error. This world was so weird, I didn't question it. I got more familiar with my patients. My personal favorite was a salamander headed teen named Neo. He was very shy but he always talked to me, his only friends were a inky mini monster, and a deer-fox with a black vortex as a face. We had a big rule to stay out of the Forest of Development which I didn't understand, but it seemed serious. You had to have a keycard to gain access entree to the forest gate, because I was a nurse, I had a keycard of my own.
I noticed that every once in a while a patient would leave the sanatorium because they were cured, or so I was told. On a very peaceful morning, I was sent by Catseye to gather fruit from the garden, which so happened to be right next to the Forest of Development. The nurses kept reminding me never to enter the forest, and it got on my nerves. As I headed to the pathway to the garden, I saw Neo sitting by himself behind a tree. I told him, "I'll get you an extra Toothapple!"Toothapples were Neos favorite fruit, it was just like an apple, except shaped like a tooth. It's another delicacy in this weird world. I slowly walked down the path, looking around me. I admired the sky, even though the sun was never there. Neither was the moon. I finally arrived at the garden, I picked up as much as my basket could carry. I got a Toothapple for everyone, but I couldn't find a extra for Neo. Maybe he won't be upset if I don't get a extra. I thought, but my mind reminded me, But you promised him.I looked around to try and spot a hidden Toothapple. And then I saw it. The freshest looking Toothapple I've ever seen. The only problem was, it was in the Forest of Development. I couldn't let down Neo, but It's strictly forbidden to enter it. I didn't care, I had to get this apple for him. I swiped my card through the gate system, feeling the guilt of breaking the rules flooding my body. I walked though the gate, and my vision went black.
My eyes eventually adjusted to see a white abyss, there was grey tiles on the ground, and giant buttons on the sides. The Toothapple was still visible on the tiled ground, so I picked it up, and I looked behind me to see a man behind me. His eyes were large, he had a small nose, and he wore a black sweater. We glanced at each other, not making a sound, until the man spoke out, "Who are you?!" He had a deep voice that sounded slightly distorted. I stared and didn't move, I didn't know what to do. I wasn't even supposed to be here.
I stepped back, and my vision went dark once more. My eyes see clearer now as I am back by the entrance of the forest, I quickly close the gate, lock it, and head back. I fear that the other nurses will find out. I make it back to the sanatorium, handing the fruit to the cooks. I went to find Neo, I handed him the two fruits. "Thank you so much Nurse Kit! I was so hungry!" I smile at him, his kind words making me feel less uneased. I start chatting with Neo, until Catseye herself howls, "Kit, report to my office immediately!" My heart stopped. I knew I was in BIG trouble. I rush over to Catseye's office, afraid of what is to come. I sit down in a chair, closing the door, and facing Catseye. "Do you know what our number one rule is?" she whispered. lIt's to never go into the Forest of Development." I reply, knowing what this is about. Catseye turned to her computer, typing something in and turning the screen to face me. "I have a system to tell me when a keycard is used, and where it's used." She points at her screen, which was showing a notification about the Forest of Development's gate being unlocked by a certain someone's keycard. "Do you see who's keycard that is?" she asks me, I reply with, "It's mine." She turns her computer back towards her. I studder multiple times trying to tell her, "I was only trying to get another Toothapple from the other side! I promise!" She refused to hear me. She sent me to my dorm, telling me to not leave it until my punishment was decided.
It's been a few days since what happened, and it was until later in the afternoon when Catseye called me out my dorm, she ordered me to follow her. We went through a hallway I've never seen before, Catseye stopped at a locked door, and opened it with her keycard. I walked in first, and SLAM! The door shut, leaving me in a long white hall with two thrones ahead of me. There was two people in that throne, a unfamiliar shady creature, and.. Neo.
