Reader's POV

"She's with me," whirls someone closer. "Where have you been, dear? I was looking everywhere for you."

You jump in surprise but lean to the newcomer's warm side, trying to hide from the three soldiers who didn't let you pass the narrow corridor of two spring-colored houses.

"Will you excuse us, gentlemen?" smiles the man who embraced you, drawing a circle into the air with two fingers.

You gasp when the soldiers shout confusedly, turning around and walking in the other direction.

"It's dangerous to wander the streets alone when the wizard Howl eats the hearts of young women," chuckles the man quietly, pulling you to the right with him.

His blond hair flies to the air. Blue eyes, deep and marble-pale at the same time, a wide scar runs over the left one.

You still have no courage to speak or answer, but it doesn't bother him that much.

You see the ground shaking slightly, black shadows taking the form of liquid figures, overflowing from the rives of cobblestone.

"Forgive me, I got you involved," he says, lifting your arms. You startle and shiver, but he leaves a gentle kiss on your forehead to calm you down. "Just follow my lead."

You close your eyes as the wizard leaps and the shadows grasp helplessly to the place where the two of you stood a second ago.

"Walk, dear!" laughs the man, carefully moving your arms to help you find the right rhythm.

And when you open your eyes, you can't stop your smile as you see your legs running freely by his.

"That's my girl," he whispers, and rolls you around his left arm, slowly lowering the height towards a wooden building.

You blush a little as the man lets go of your hand, making sure you land safely on a balcony surrounded by blooming flowers on the handrail. He smiles at you once again.

How did he know where I live?

"They won't be after you now."

"What's your name?" you ask, running closer as he steps back, floating in the air. The sunrays shine from behind, painting his locks golden.

"I will tell you once we meet again," he answers, then flies down to the ground.

You run to the barrier and look over the geraniums, but he's long gone by the time your eyes start to search for him.

Your hand subconsciously travels to your chest, feeling the beat of your racing heart. This is the first time for you to experience magic, not just see it.

"I'm afraid your friend was wrong," sounds a low voice from the door of the house.

You turn your heels and recoil when you see a tall and lean man there.

He misses the natural elegance of the wizard who took you here, but you can't deny the powerful, raw aura of magic around him.

A long, black cape brushes the ground, hiding the rest of his clothes. Even his face is hidden in the shadows, you can barely see a golden earring gleaming in the dark like his eyes.

Can he be Howl?

How did he get inside?

"He's not my friend," you whisper scaredly, then bite your lip.
