Aelin POV

She had been tunneling into her power for months now and the iron could only hold her for so long. As the slender, black-haired male with eyes like ivory brought his sword down on her the female sidestepped him and let his blade fall precisely where she wanted it.

Her irons gave an ear-piercing crack and just like that her wrist was no longer contained to the bed. She locked eyes with her targets and then the song of destruction began. She released the tiniest bit of her power into each and every one of them. They burned, turning agonized faces towards her. Awe and shock apparent on them, before being turned to ash.

She took one last shuttering breath before releasing all restraints on her magic, she was fire incarnate.

Her magic tore its way through her cell, out into the beauty and hell that was the castle of Doranelle. She held her powers leash as she sensed her tormentor in the room above hers, and with the most wicked and conniving smile, she let her fire seep into Cairn's essence. Slowly and delicately, but certainly not painfully, she pulled up the last dregs of her power before the manacles once again suppressed the passionate storm that was Aelin. With her newly-forged fiery knifes she stabbed Cairn in so many places and ways that he was down in an instant.

Just for spite, although I wished I'd had more time with his body to make good on my promise to skin him alive. Was her final remorse before turning back towards the glistening wall.

The portal started to fade and the queen realized she was losing her only opportunity at escape.

The portal had swapped its welcoming deep and true Terrassen green for one of a nightly purple she had to admire for its magnificence.

Aelin could only hope it was the same Terrassen she knew and loved.

So with one final swipe of her blood-covered blade, Aelin Ashryver Galathynius, Queen of Terrassen, mate to Lysandra Ashryver, leapt through the misty markings and unknowingly dove into a world that would either be her salvation, or her demise.

Unbeknownst to the air of fire, Lysandra was dragged right through the portal along with her.
