I used to hate how much everyone loved Halloween, but honestly I think it was because I was in the wrong state. Because down here in NOLA, it's a completely different vibe. The weather is nice enough for those slutty outfits men wear (sexy firefighters and cops) and the women's clever one (Penis costumes and Fran Drescher in The Nanny).

Irregardless of the fact that I have to work the bar in said slutty outfit, a maid costume required by Shelby. But I wasn't going to complain the tips were racking in and people are having a good ole time. Tonight is the perfect kind of night for if you're working or if you're partying, you couldn't stop the contagious positive energy that's spreading across the city.

"Court, could you go to the fridge and get some more beers these motherfuckers are shotgunning beer in the corners," Shelby shouted over the group of men that were yelling in front of her. I chuckled before leaving from behind the bar to go into the basement and get two packs of beer.

"What do you mean she called you, Lindsey she hasn't seen those boys in 2 years why on earth is she coming back now?" I heard someone yell, from the sound of the voice I was going to guess Marcus.

"Hey," I whispered, waving my hand to get his attention. Marcus looked over to me before sighing and mouthing one second, before I could tell him nevermind he was already back on the phone with Lindsay, " Lindsay I'm going to call you back." Marcus hung up the phone, and looked down. He dragged his hand down his head while taking a deep sigh.

I walked up behind him and rubbed his back.

"Marcus, what's wrong?" I asked, patting his back. He kept his head down breathing quite heavily. "You can talk to me."

"Do you know the story behind why Lindsay has Lane and Trevor?"

"Yeah, their mom dropped them off one day and didn't say anything," I started wondering where he was going with this.

"Well their mother called Lindsay the other day, and said she was going to come see them."

"But is she going to stay with them?"

"She didn't say anything about whether or not she would stay. I would prefer if she left and stayed away entirely instead of coming to see them on a whim like this. It's selfish, but then again she's always been selfish."

This was going to take some time, so I rubbed his back to keep him calm.

"Look, I have to take the beer up the bar, let me finish that and I'll take my break so we can talk. You want to meet me in my car?" I asked concerned.

"Fine, but we'll meet at my office instead. I don't want any distractions."

"What beer were you getting?" he asked, opening the fridge.

"Two packs of the Heinken," I said, pointing towards it and seeing his muscles bulge slightly from the weight of the boxes.

Son of a bitch! Those boxes are damn heavy and to see lift with no effort was borderline an insult.

"I'll help you take it back up there. Shelby should know better than to ask you to carry the boxes upstairs in those damn outfits. I need someone to approve the outfits."

"You approved the outfits," I said, trying not to laugh. He only grunted going up the stairs. Once we got behind the bar, another one of the bartenders came behind the bar.

"Court I'm going to take over for you so you can take your lunch," Anette said, one of the other bartenders. Me and Anette were becoming close, we usually closed together, we were the same age, and we just meshed well.
