Chapter 20: Tainted Hands

By birth, by nature, and by choice we are entirely corrupt. Even our pure hearts would ultimately be tainted by evil. It was up to me to embrace him and his soiled touch to love him wholly. I held him, letting the faint pulse of my heart welcome him.

We sat together silently our mellow breaths intermingling. He pulled me close and kissed me with great ardor threading his fingers through my golden strands. Before I could even blink I had felt my back being penetrated by a cold metallic dagger. I yelled out in anguish clutching the hilt with my hands. When I pulled away my hands were coated with crimson blood. My vision became distorted and clouded pulling me into oblivion.

"Yui...Yui wake up." A voice drifted into my ear.

I opened my eyes to Ayato peering at me from the side of the bed. Confused I pulled the blankets looking for my wound yet I was meet with nothing.

"I'm alive?" I said astonished.

"Hah? Of course, you are, idiot." He said.

I looked around searching for my tormentor Alice. However, she was nowhere around.

"Where's Alice?" I asked.

"Who?" Ayato replied his eyebrow scrunching with confusion.

He reached for my cheek and pinched it hard.

"Ouch!" I yelled out.

"Does it hurt? Of course it does. I pinched you with all my might. I made sure it hurt like hell."

I rubbed my cheek and glared at him with anger. He took one look at me and began laughing.

"Are you awake now?" He asked.

"Yes." I replied.

"Let's get some food in you."

He pulled me by the hand and dragged me out of the room. However, I was unsteady on my feet and pulled him to a stop.

"What's wrong?" He asked.

"I'm dizzy."

"Eh? You feel dizzy? What the hell." He barked ruffling his own hair.

He gently lifted me off my feet placing me against his broad chest. I felt like a princess being carried away by her knight.

"Damn it! Why do I have to do something like this!?" He cursed aloud.

"I'll carry you like this, but just for now." He grumbled softly.

He carried me silently to the kitchen and sat me down. He began to rummage through the cupboard and pulled out, cereal and milk. Hungry I tore into the food in front of me.

"Man, you're hopeless." He sighed seating himself beside me.

The spoon in my hand dropped from my fingers clattering against the glass bowl. I was startled by a phantom that haunted my vision. I kept having flashbacks of Alice's bloodthirsty glare as she sank the blade into my back. I shook my head trying to clear the hallucination.

"I'm scared." I whimpered.

Ayato seemed bemused by my expression,

"The scariest and strongest should be me- the great Ayato-sama, right?"

His sudden exclamation caused a smile to spread across my face. I chuckled at his wayward expression.

"You...what are you laughing at?." He snapped.

He yanked my chin and met my gaze with his own.

"What should I do so you'll be mine and mine only? that's what's been driving me all this time." He said nuzzling his face in my shoulder.

"Ayato I..."

He cut me off speaking once more...

"Yeah yeah. you sure do love me." He muttered.
