Lux woke up like any normal Saturday morning. Surrounded by a midnight blue velvet comforter smelling richly of vanilla. The light from the early summer morning started to brighten as she laid there enjoying the hazy weekend day.
"I wonder if papa enjoyed his business trip last night, even though I couldn't make it with him this time due to Samuels birthday party." Lux wondered to herself.
She had enjoyed herself with her friends at the beach, however business trips with papa we're something special and close to Lux's heart. They often came back and stayed up as late as possible talking of old tales or reading new books while snacking away. So for once in the first month of summer break Lux was up early with the sun.
Stretching up high her muscles pulled oh so nicely. Now that she thought about it Lux was surprised she didn't have any dreams, there was nothing to draw this morning. No itch to carve images into paper. At least her wrist would get a break.
Crawling across her large bed from the center she parted the sheer gold canopy and pushed back her long unruly hair from covering part of her face. Pattering from the edge of her bed towards the open bathroom door Lux started the shower to scalding. No Mag water servicing was so much better than wizarding methods if Lux was honest with herself, she was very happy her family and school had close connections in the other community. Looking at the large silver mirror Lux huffed, her wavy dark blonde hair was a complete mess. It didn't help at this point it was about to pass her bum. Grabbing a silver hair brush she started at the ends and worked her way up. All of the fairy locks often made mornings a long mangling routine. Hair brushed she hopped into the shower and enjoyed her quiet morning cleaning.
Humming a slow old Norse song Lux hurried to dressing a light flowing cream set of robes, the lace edging made for the best part of the outfit. Twirling her way down the hallway as the sunlight streaming through the large windows grew brighter. Lux hoped Poppy made her favorite peach scones for breakfast.
"Oh maybe with honey drizzle on top." She practically salivated at the thought.
Hurrying the rest of the way down the stairs and through the entry room and to the right . It wasn't as bright here but it would be once she opened the kitchen doors. Practically one whole side of the kitchen was windows, and they sat at the table right next to it for breakfast together. It was smaller, more intimate setting than the huge ornate official dining room. Lux hated when they entertained and had to host in there. There was no life in that room.
Cracking open the wooden doors Lux peered around the door immediately spotting her favorite elf. Quietly shutting the door behind her Lux tip toed up behind the well dressed elf, wearing a bright red tunic. Wrapping her arms around the much smaller creature Lux started laughing as she spun in circles."No's missy! I's be finishing your scones! Put Poppy down right nows!!" Poppy exclaimed waving her cooking spoon around the air.
Lux giggled as she set Poppy back down in her place. "Naughty missy you's is today." Poppy said.
"Yes you may be right dear Poppy. I was just too happy to see you is all." Lux responded with a grin.
"Well... Poppy can accept that, I missed the missy as well." Poppy stated. "Shoo, off you's go. Breakfast soon." The elf snapped her fingers hovering a carafe of fresh coffee towards the breakfast table.
Nana Sigrid smiled at Lux as they made eye contact across the room.
"Little Hugin, leave the busy Poppy alone and come sit with me."
Obeying her nana Lux quickly approached the table and claimed her seat directly across from Nana. Curtly and dishes immediately appeared on the table. Porcelain ivory plates and glasses rimed in gold. A little raven in flight on the front.
"Did I ever tell you little one about this set of dishes?" Nana inquired.
Actually Lux had not known anything special about the delicate dish ware. Shaking her head ice blue eyes stayed locked on the familiar and aged glimmering green. Nana tucked a graying strand of dark brown behind her ear, the small amount of grey didn't take away from her strong beautiful Norwegian features. Oval face with a straight nose, high cheek bones, slightly pouty lips with distinct brows. Her hair had traditional plaits with rune beads woven throughout it. Nana had often said it was hard to rid herself of her hairstyle she had since she was a wee one. The history of Vikings and adventure was common with their country.
"This set was said to be crafted for the first mistress of Odin himself. She was a delicate thing and thus he hunted for a delicate craftsman to make something striking yet simple, just as she was."
Lux was floored! There was no way!
"On yes." Nana continues. "The lady Corva was said to be practically made for him. Wisdom beyond her years, eyes intelligent and disarming. Long raven locks to match her name and eyes the lightest blue. Some rumors even said when she had died Odin had names his ravens after her. "
Lux was so enthralled she didn't even notice with Peony, Poppy's sister brought by her breakfast goodies.
"Wait, Nana why do you call me little Hugin?" Lux asked a curiously tilted head.
"You always did catch onto things that are supposed to be outside your grasp." Nana chuckled. Stirring some sugar into her new acquired tea. "Legend has it that we are descendants long removed from their joining."
Lux couldn't believe what she was hearing. Mindlessly she picked at her scone while contemplating what her Nana had just told her. A juicy delicious bite of peach brought her back to the present.
