you stared out towards the school gates directly in front of you. you were in another one of your weird mid-day dazes that sometimes would go off into when you were high, yet this time, you weren't.
"and that was a little awkward, but overall he's so sweet and- y/n?" yachi stopped to wave a hand in front of your face. "y/n."
"yeah, go on," you shook your head snapping yourself back into reality.
she pouted in her hands, "y/n, were you even listening?"
you nodded, "yeah, of course i was!"
"oh yeah? what was i talking about?"
"uh... date?"
she sighed, "have you been getting enough sleep? you keep going off into... i dunno, space?"
you laughed softly and bowed your head. it was about tobio in the gym last night. "did that really happen?" you thought to yourself. "i don't know, i think i'm having hallucinations or something."
"are you not sober?!"
"no, yachi, i am. i'm just not sure some of the stuff that i think happened, really did."
she hummed in thought before tadashi creeped up behind her, and placed his hands over her eyes. "who is it?" she asked.
he cleared his throat, getting ready for a deep voice, "guess."
"hmm, yams?"
they quickly became all blushy and low-key lovey dovey, so you politely excused yourself. "i'll give you two some space," you picked up your bag.
"oh no, y/n you don't have to! i'm sorry!"
"you're not third wheel!" he apologised.
you shrugged, "really, it's not you! i'm just gonna go... uh, find tsukishima."
"oh, he's that way," tadashi pointed the opposite of the direction you were going.
you pointed in the direction you were going, "mmm, really? i think i saw him go this way."
"he's always-"
"oh, i think that's him. wow, i really gotta catch up to him!" you speed walked away.
truth is, you did feel like third wheel. how could you not when your two best friends were now going on dates and flirting with each other?
you ran to the vending machine and inserted a few bills, making sure not to select #65 again and you walked down the hall into the math block. you slid down against the wall, sipping on your drink.
a door opened next to you, it was tobio. you glanced up and saw him turning back around and shutting the door quickly.
—
it was time to go to practice and you were slightly nervous considering how awkward it was every time you passed him.
you slid your hand into your back pocket trying to find your keys before remembering that you'd given them to tobio yesterday. you leaned against the wall outside and waiting for someone to come and unlock the gym.
"is the gym locked?" kei asked.
you jumped and placed your hand over your chest. "shit, you scared me. yeah, someone locked it."
"don't you have the keys?"
"uh, dropped them somewhere," you replied.
he furrowed his brows at you, "you? you lost keys?"
you never lose anything, you're probably the most organised one in the team. after your brother graduated, you kind of took his place (although you swore you were the furthest thing from him).
"you ask too many questions, people slip up sometimes!"
takeda came walking down to the gym, "are you two alright?"
"door is locked, she lost her keys," kei smiled sarcastically, patting your back. you slapped his hand away and he chuckled.
"happens to all of us, i'll unlock the door!" he pulled out his keys, dropping them on the ground by accident. "sorry," he picked them up, taking at least three tries to get the key in the right way.
takeda opened the doors and you walked in, "where the hell is everyone?"
at that moment, tobio and shoyo ran through the doors. you stared awkwardly at the dark-haired boy and he averted his eyes.
you walked up to him, "can i have my keys?" he dropped them in your hand silently and you thanked him.
"why did kageyama have your keys?" tadashi asked, just now getting to the gym and wrapping his arms around both of you.
you shoved them into the dude pocket of your bag, "i let him lock up late after practice."
kei leaned over tadashi's shoulder, "didn't you say you lost them?"
"what is with you and questions today? leave me alone!"
you hadn't changed before coming to practice so ran off to the locker room to go do that. yachi shortly followed and she saw you sitting shirtless on the bench. "you're so pretty, y/n."
you looked up and smiled, "oh, thank you."
"are you getting changed? you know coach hates to wait."
"yeah, when he's not late to practice himself," you scoffed, standing back up. you wrapped your jacket around you, not bothering to put on the white undershirt and just opting to zip it up higher than usual.
there was a fast-paced knock at the door from tanaka, "coach is here, he said to hurry."
yachi opened the door and walked out quickly. you knew that it was because she was scared of angry ukai, but she hadn't thought about the fact that you weren't fully dressed. your skirt was off and you were just lucky you had safety shorts on, however short they were.
tanaka quickly covered his eyes, "I DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING!"
you sighed and pulled your tracksuit pants up, "I KNOW."
