narrator's pov.
3rd day."oh, sakusa?" komori replied, "no, i don't think he would do anything with anyone. he's too focussed on the camp."
"dang," dani looked up and sighed, "what about you?"
"eri was really sweet. we didn't do anything but we talked all night," he replied. "i was kinda awkward and i think i bored her."
mako gasped, "wait, that's actually cute."
"i really like her," he whispered, trying not to let the team behind him hear.
"do you want us to play matchmaker?" mako raised an eyebrow, scoffing down a random protein bar that she had found in her bag.
"yes please."
"okay, bet. by the end of this training camp, you'll be together or talking," dani promised.
"you three," fukurodani's coach called, "we're going inside."
—
"it was a good, straight spike, don't get me wrong," you read through your notes, "but it was too weak, y'know? like there wasn't that much power behind it. i think that if you had just reacted quicker you could've received it."
"wait, really?" the first-year player asked.
"i feel like seeing all the muscle he has gives the illusion that the hit was stronger than it actually was. you don't need freakishly supernatural reflexes like noya," you told him.
"i couldn't receive that," yachi said, soon realising that that might not have been the most encouraging thing to say, "oh, but you can!"
"it's lunch in five, so go back to training and we'll give you more notes soon," you flipped your small book closed.
"thanks!" he ran back onto the court.
their practice matches had already finished, leaving only individual team training left before they got to eat.
"good observation," keishin crossed his arms.
"thank you, coach," you smiled.
—
eri was giving a few notes to her group after their loss to yours.
"your last spike was a little weak, i'm not gonna lie to you," she read bluntly. "i think that they could've easily gotten the point, had their player been a second faster."
"he wasn't a second faster though."
"shut up and take my note," she smiled passive-aggresively.
"oh."
"yeah, now go back to training or whatever. i think i'm supposed to be in the kitchen."
—
"eri? are you okay?" you asked.
she sliced down on the cucumbers angrily, "fine."
"do you want me to take over?" mako walked up behind her.
eri turned around, knife still in hand, "i said i'm fine."
mako held her hands up defensively, walking back to her spot, "okay!"
eri has a generally happy person. she was kind and she was friendly with everyone. she was just going through a bad day.
"i don't wanna be friends with komori, he's too hot for that!" eri blurted out.
"but you met him two days ago," sara replied. oh, first years...
"i met him three years ago at nationals, thank you," eri argued.
