I walked through my front door and threw my bag on the floor.
"Mom, I'm home!" I yelled. I heard a grunt come from the living room and walked in immediately regretting the decision. My mom was laying on the couch with some guy on top of her. I covered my mouth to stop the puke from coming out.
"Oh my god mom! Dad hasn't even been gone a year and you're already doing this! How could you?" I screamed.
She pushed the guy off of her and covered herself with a blanket off the couch, remind me not use that anymore. She looked at me with pure anger in her eyes and I was awaiting the punishment that awaited me.
"Why should I care about your father he's the one who loved you more than his wife!" She said in a cocky tone. I looked at her with a look disbelief and amusement.
"Of course he did you were never home or showed that you even cared about us. You never did care and you never will. I know why you wanted full custody of me. It was to make dad miserable wasn't it? To make him feel like shit because his own wife who he loved and cherished took his only daughter, his world, away from him because she thought he loved her more. You are a sick excuse for a mother and I wish I could live with dad!" I taunted her.
There was a sharp pain across my cheek, I looked down quickly. Mom only ever hit me if she was drunk or upset, most likely in this case she was drunk.
"You shut up about your father and I's relationship you know nothing! Now go to your room and leave me alone!" She screamed.
I grabbed my book bag and went up the stairs. Before I went to my room, I went to the closet by the stairs and grabbed multiple bags. I could hear my mother and her toy getting back to business downstairs and felt nauseous again.
I walked to my room and locked the door. I had everything planned out, since mom wouldn't come to check on me, I would keep my door locked and leave around midnight and wait at the local park till morning to get my money from the bank. When it was normally time for me to be awake and ready for school my mom was already across town at her job, so she wouldn't realize I was gone till tomorrow afternoon. I would text my friends from home, Fraya and Hayley, before I left to let them what I was doing, then I would break my phone.
After I got my money I would go and wait for a bus and take it a couple towns over where it stops and doesn't continue. From there I will have to walk till I come across the next town to find a place to stay. After that it's all a mystery.
I took out my laptop and searched the time the first bus would be. The website said 8 then a bus would stop every 30 minutes from then on until 9 in the evening. I searched my address and there was only five buses that stopped at the nearest stop and would repeat the cycle after it finished its route. I looked at each bus route and the one I would need would be bus 275 and it arrived at 9:30.
Knowing the bank doesn't open till 8:30 means I would have an hour to walk to the bank to get my money and walk back. The ticket for the bus ride would be 55$ for all 15 stops and the bus ride would last 2 hours. That only takes me a couple towns over and I still have to travel from New York to California.
---- later that night ----
It was finally time to leave, mom had gone to bed and all the neighbors lights were off. I had already taken apart my window so I could crawl onto the roof above our front porch. I grabbed my phone from my night stand and sent a text to Hayley and Fraya.
From Emery: Goodbye guys. No, I'm not committing suicide, I'm just leaving. I'm going to find my father and also getting rid of my phone after this message. I'm sorry I'm leaving so suddenly. I hope to see you again after I finish what I have to do. Until then remember I love you both and I will never forget you. :) <3
Within seconds I hard the familiar ding from my phone and I picked up my phone to read the message.
From Hayley: I understand why your doing this but why didn't you tell us sooner? Your mom is probably going to assume your going to us or your father before anything else. What happens if when you get to your father there are cops there to get you. I know I cant stop you so go ahead and go but please stay out of trouble and contact us as soon as possible. I love you too!! <3
I smiled at her response and answered saying I would be careful and promised to contact her. I waited a bit longer but didn't get a response from Fraya, she probably wasn't going to answer either since she always went to bed early and she was a deep sleeper. Finally deciding it was time I threw my phone on the floor over and over until the screen was shatter and it wouldn't turn on.
I grabbed my bags and threw them out first and sighed, this is it, I'm leaving for good. I looked around one last time looking for anything I could need. I saw my Polaroid camera and its film sitting on my desk beside a picture of Hayley, Fraya, and I. I grabbed both and stuffed them in my bag along with my old iPod and earbuds.
I swung one leg out and balanced myself before swinging the other out as well. I picked up my bags and threw them on the ground, along the side of the house were vines easy to climb up and down. I started down them but halfway down my kitchen light turned on and I could see my mom's shadow from the light. I held my breath and started down again, she wouldn't see me unless the went to the other window.
I reached the ground I quickly grabbed my bags and hid behind the bushes waiting for the light to go off. After a couple minute the lights turned off and I grabbed the three bags. I had a backpack with clothes, toiletries, and my converse, another smaller backpack with food and water, and a drawstring with valuables including pictures, a few pieces jewelry, and a letter Hayley and Fraya gave me. Deciding it was time I walked to the park.
