I woke up to the sun in my eyes, I opened them slowly staring at the blinding light. I looked around confused as to why I was in the park. Then I remembered I was leaving to find my father. I checked my watch and sat up in alarm, it was 8:56 I only have 34 minutes to make it to the bank and then to the bus stop. I got off the bench and started sprinting down the street, my bags hitting my back with every step.
As I neared the bank I checked my watch again, 9:08, I almost screamed in frustration. I was going to be late. I sped up and got looks from people walking down the street. I was expecting them since I was a teenager with multiple bags on their back running down the road on a Wednesday when I should be at school.
I ran the final to block to the bank and hurried in. I was a painting mess. The lady at her desk looked up alarmed when she heard the door slam shut.
I walked over to her and grabbed a few suckers from their basket, also putting one in my mouth. The lady looked confused and annoyed, most likely thinking I was some kid skipping class and getting a sucker just for the heck of it.
"My name is Emerg Farley, I need to withdraw all the money in my account." I said to her.
"Do you have written permission from your parent or guardian?" She asked sweetly.
"Yah, let me get it." I pulled out a piece of paper from my pocket with my mothers signature. The only way she would sign it was if I told her it was so I could buy her a new dress. I handed it to the lady and she turned around looking through papers and typing stuff into a computer.
"The total amount in your account it 3658.78, are you sure you want to take all of it?" She asked. I nodded and she went back to typing.
She opened a drawer and pulled out a bunch of cash and started counting my money. I looked at my watch again, 9:16.
'Come on woman faster.' I thought to myself.
She quit counting and pulled out an envelope putting the money in quickly. I grabbed it mutter a quick thank you and ran out. She kept calling my name telling me I had to sign a paper but I ignored her and ran faster.
The bus stop was closer than the park so I should make it. The time was 9:24 and I was still 6 blocks away. I pushed myself to run faster and all that I could hear were my short breaths and my feet hitting the pavement.
I could see the bus pulling into the stop when I was a block away. I ran and yelled for it to wait and it never moved. I got up to it and stepped on handing the lady the money needed and sat down towards the back.
There were only three other people on at the moment. An elderly woman sat at the front with a nurse next to her and a guy around 19 sat in the middle.
When I walked past him he stared at me, it looked as if he was contemplating murder or something with the look he gave me. He had short black hair and hazel eyes. He was wearing a simple black t-shirt with a flannel over top, and black skinny jeans.
I took out my iPod and pressed shuffle. I leaned my head against the window, watching the passing building and familiar places. Sighing I closed my eyes to try and get some sleep.
+++++
I woke up and yawned slightly, looking from side to side. The bus was pretty much full but the seat beside me was still empty. Guess no one wanted to sit beside me, oh well more room for me. I propped my feet on the seat next to me and leaned my head against the window again.
I checked the time, 10:35, I would get off in about an hour. I rubbed my eyes, pulled out my earbuds and paused my music. I looked around and saw many middle-aged men and woman in business attire and some younger people on the bus.
I looked out the window across the alley and saw more passing buildings. Guessing we were in the next town over I watched unfamiliar buildings and houses passing. The happy walkers chatting or just walking in silence.
We passed by a family with a young girl, she was walking between her parents hold one hand from both. As we passed she jumped off the ground and her parents pulled her up and swung her forward gently. When she landed she laughed with joy and smiled at her parents.
I sighed and looked down remembering moments like that with my parents and my brother. Oh my brother. He didn't have to worry about this, he graduated and moved to Florida to study engineering. I haven't seen him in 6 years. He used to send letter every now and then, but when I told him about mom and dad he stopped. He left me with them.
"Um excuse me but can I sit here?" A small voice asked.
I looked up at the girl and smiled. I put my feet back on the floor and she sat down. She had a small frame and short brown hair. Her shirt was dirty and looked as if she had rolled in dirt after putting it on, there as a jacket around her waist and she had on skinny jeans.
"How log have you been on the bus?" She asked looking at me.
"An hour." I mumbled. I didn't want to talk to anyone incase they would send me in or talk me out of going.
"Cool. I plan on going till the last stop in Clinton, what about you." She asked cheerfully.
"Going there too." I said quietly, still not wanting to talk.
"Then we can ride the whole way together!" She squealed happily.
"Yah, sure."
She then started talking about her plans so I blocked her out and looked at the window behind her hoping she thought I was looking at her. She kept rambling so I guess it worked.
"Hellloooo. Are you even paying attention?" She asked waving her hand in my face.
"Huh, oh yah totally." I replied.
"Then are you going to Colorado too?"
"No." I answered simply.
"Then where?"
"Somewhere far away." I responded turning my head to my window.
I heard her huff and mutter something under her breath. I took out my iPod again and pressed shuffle.
