Chapter Two
I stayed home for a week, not feeling up for school. So, during the whole time I was home, I cleaned, watched TV, jogged, swam, tanned, and got my hair cut and dyed. So now my hair is layered and a caramel color.
As I was watching Jersey Shore, and drinking some iced tea, my doorbell rang. I paused it, thank you direct tv, and walked towards the door. The person standing there, was the last person I expected to see on my door step.
"Um...what are you doing here, and how the hell did you get in?!"
I may not be popular, but that doesn't mean that I'm a scumbag who lives in a box. My parent's are filthy rich, so I live just outside town, in a huge mansion, that is almost impossible to get into if you're an outsider.
"You missed a week of school, I'm here to help you get caught up," he said, only answering part of the question.
"You can loose your job doing this, you know," I warned him.
"Well, Miss Emily, I don't think that's as important as getting my student caught up and helped."
"Mr-" I started, but he cut me off.
"Call me Damien, we're outside of school."
"Well, Mr. Torch, if my parents walk through that door and find a guy sitting here with me alone, they're not going to be too ecstatic," I said annoyed.
In a way, I kind of just lied. My parents are in Jamaica, working on some project of theirs. So there is a very high possibility we'll never get caught. Which in my opinion, didn't help this situation what so ever.
"Well, if they know I'm your teacher and here to help you get your work caught up, they'll probably understand the situation," he contradicted.
I sat down on the couch and turned off the TV. Of course it would be me, the one that gets a teacher over here to make me do work. I scowled at the huge stack of papers and books that he had set on the glass coffee table. Why on earth would this happen to me? This man has ruined everything. Up until his arrival, I was the invisible girl, only noticed if someone was bored and wanted to pull pranks on me. Though, they never got the chance since I always beat them to it. But that doesn't change the fact that him becoming my teacher wasn't life altering for me.
"Are you okay Emily?" He asked pulling me out of my reverie.
"Why the hell would you do this anyway?! Why can't you just leave me the hell alone like everyone else?!" My voice rose, now I'm pissed.
"I just thought it would be help-" He began but I cut him off.
"I don't need your fucking help! I don't need anyone's help! I'm doing just fucking fine on my own so why don't you get your ass out of here and leave me the hell alone?!" Tears of rage now filling my eyes, stupid betraying tears!
"I'm only trying to look out for you. You're my student, it's my job," he said softly.
"No one else wants to help me, why should you?" I asked quieter this time. My voice breaking at the end. Ever since I was just ten years old, I was on my own, forced to grow up faster than I was supposed to. My parents were never around, granted I went up to Bradford, PA to see my aunt and her family, but I was still alone.
"I know how it feels to be all alone growing up, Emily, I just wanted to be that person you could count on if you needed me," He said softly. "If you want me to leave, I will, all you have to do is ask."
I shook my head and mumbled, "Please stay."
Tears slowly slid down, staining my cheeks. I always had to be tough, I learned tears showed weakness, so I always forced them back, till now. I tried to be strong, but this time, I finally broke. I let my walls come down. I finally let those tears fall freely. And to be honest, it really helped. As my tears continued to fall, I felt him pull me into a hug. The last time this happened, again was when I was ten, now I'm eighteen.
