Making a difference
By Jay Bates

Cherry lip gloss,

Oh my gosh,

Messy hair,

Too much makeup,

I don’t care,

Too much leg,

Not enough clothes,

Be yourself,

Or no one at all,

Let’s throw a ball,

Like we’re princesses’,

‘Cause we deserve the best,

We’re blessed,

With contrasting looks,

Big personalities,

We all have different nationalities,

But we’re all similar,

In one way or another,

They say we can’t make it,

When this world,

is built for men,

But look out farther,

Women are in the army,

In congress,

Writing children stories,

Making differences,

One step at a time,

We all have distinct looks,

individual personalities,

but we’re all looking to make a difference,

whatever the size it is,

We all have something to prove,

We all want make our own pavement,

We all want to be happy,

When we judge each other,

We don’t change anything,

We say how fake someone is,

Hating them because their scared,

To be themselves,

When they know you’ll judge them,

That’s how women are,

Petty and mean,

Why can’t we just hold ourselves up with self-esteem,

and make a difference,

by coming clean,

How different we are,

But how similar we can be,

Accepting,

Loving,

Kind,

Generous,

Be happy,

and create a difference,

Even if it starts out small,

because one day it’ll be so big,

That it’ll run through other galaxies.
