Chapter 49

  We went back to the pack house and it had been destroyed beyond repair. The house had burnt down and there were dead bodies all around. Some people started wailing seeing the dead bodies of their loved ones. My heart ached knowing it was because of us that all these people had to loose their life. My heart broke in a thousand pieces seeing people cry and I was tearing up as well. I know what it feels like to loose someone and a lot of children have lost their parents, parents loosing children and wives loosing husbands. I couldn't help but feel that it was my fault and I know some of them were thinking the same too.

  Damon, I had to make sure he was okay. Looking around I could see some survivors that were being treated or carried away to be treated. No doubts a hundred of lives had been lost and double of that were injured.

   I wasn't feeling any serious pain so I knew he was still alive somewhere. I hoped Chase was alright as well and the people that were injured recovered quickly.

  I sighted Damon addressing some people and as soon as I saw him I ran to hug him dismissing the fact that I was slightly mad at him before.

  "Lee, it's so good to know you're alright. I checked the basement and everywhere around but couldn't find you." The way we embraced just made me burst out in tears. I could have lost him, people lost their lives because of me, how many more will loose their lives because of me?

   "It's okay baby, I'm fine, we're going to be alright." He soothed me stroking and kissing my hair and I stopped crying and just realized I didn't even check to see if he was okay.

  "Are you hurt? Did you break any bones? Can you walk well, are you bleeding somewhere, does anywhere hurt?" I asked inspecting every part of his body.

  There were scratches here and there on his body. He was shirtless and I could see different claw marks on his body and some bruises but other than that he looked fine.

  "There's no need to worry about me." He chuckled softly, "I'm fine, my body aches a lot as well as my head but it will heal fast. " His expression turned sad as he continued. "A lot of people lost their lives and many have emotional and physical things to recover from. Body parts were gone and some might not be able to move some parts of their body, I wish I could do something to help them or better still prevented it all."

   I couldn't help but feel like it was my fault again. His pack wouldn't have gone through all this if I wasn't here, if Loranda wasn't here. Was disaster all we brought with us?

  "I wish there was something I could do to prevent it as well. They attacked us swiftly, there was no preparation of any sort and we weren't physically ready for this. It just hurts to know that this happened because of me, they are just going to hate me more and I blame myself. They wouldn't have died if I wasn't here, they wouldn't have....'' he shushed me up before I could say anything else placing his finger on my lips.

  "It's not your fault. There's nothing anyone could have done about it. Packs go on war, none of this is your fault. I couldn't protect them, they lost their lives because of me. I'm the one they are after, they are going to attack again and this time we are going to be prepared. We will end all of this. "

  Did I hear him right? He's the one they are after? Maybe I'm just overthinking it. Another pack attacked, he must be talking about them.

   "I can't wait for this to end, I'm tired already. We need to end this soon." Nobody has to die because of us anymore.

  "We will. Alpha duties calling, I'll talk to you soon, we really need to talk." He looked really serious and sad but he was right. We really need to talk because I'm no longer understanding anything again.

  "Yes we do, we'll talk when you're done." I said after he kissed me before leaving.

  I just hope that I wouldn't overreact when I know his secret and we don't jeopardize the relationship because it has gone through a lot already and then we get past all these problems, mate and have youngs.

"It's all going to be okay." I said trying to calm myself down.

   "Hey." I heard Chase call out and I was glad that he was okay although he looked pretty bad. He was limping and Aria was supporting him.

  "Chase, it's so good to see you." I said smiling.

  "Of course, it's always good to see me or did you think I'll be gone that easily?" he joked and I laughed. It was a good thing that he was alright.

"Of course not, you're the mighty beta now." I said laughing and he joined in too.

  "They really did a lot of damage Lee, Damon tried his best and that was the only reason why they left, he was able to kill one of the witches and the alpha that works for her." Chase informed and although I know Damon is strong and powerful but strong enough to kill a witch? That's on another level.

"Wow, that's amazing." I said after a short pause, if we all joined forces together we will be able to stop them. This could end sooner than I thought.

  "That's enough, you shouldn't be talking to much, your lips are swollen and your face is a mess, let's get you to the doctor." Aria said and Chase rolled his eyes.

  "She's just like Damon, can't believe there's two of them." He said and I chuckled.

  I know Aria knows I have a lot of questions to ask her and she was trying to escape it because she didn't want to tell me anything but wanted me to hear it straight from Damon.

"You love us and I wonder what you will do without us." Aria said cheekily but he just rolled his eyes.

"I can very much do without the both of you." He said playfully and she was about to hit him but considering his condition she just ruffed up his hair a bit.

"We'll see you later Lee, I think Loranda was looking for you." Aria said as they left, walking in the direction of the hospital.

  I was more than curious to know what they were hiding and it was making me a bit restless. I went over to where Loranda was and they were all helping out in cleaning the area and so I joined in too and by the time we were done it was already dark. This was a really exhausting day.

  I was walking back to our room to freshen up and get something to eat later so that I can get to talk with Damon but on getting to the room I could see him and Aria talking. The door was not properly closed so I could see them and hear them. I really didn't mean to eavesdrop but I found myself doing so.

  "You should tell her already, she's already so suspicious and I can't keep evading her questions you know. "

  "I'll tell her tonight but to be honest I'm scared Aria, what if she doesn't want to talk to me after that, it's a really big secret you know."

  "Everyone has secrets Axel, the sooner you tell it the better for you. It's time for her to know, it's time for you to take your rightful place Axel." She said and right there and then I connected all the dots, there was enough evidence already, enough proof to know that my claims were right.

  Damon, no Axel, he's the true Alpha King !!!!!!
