I'm sorry. I'm so so sorry. Sully, my friend. I abandoned you. I forgot about you in that door, I thought you had gotten out already. I got in our bed thinking you were fast asleep. But when I woke up and you were nowhere to be seen. I realized my mistake. I got back to the door but it was locked, who could've locked it? I turned to the closest employee.
"Go get management," I said. They looked at me strangely.
"GO GET MANAGEMENT!" I yelled. My eye got red and I felt like I was about to cry. I shook the door again and again. I pounded on it. I was scared that I'd never see you again. My best friend, you got me through so much and now you were locked behind this door all because of a dumb mistake I made.
Managment came and they found out the door was faulty. We didn't have time to figure out who would put in the door we just had to find the keys to open it. Claws was the last one who put them away and he couldn't remember where. I grabbed him by his spikes.
"Where did you put them!" I screamed at him. I felt my hands pulling on his spikes as he yelped in pain. Two employees had to take me off of him. I was angry now. It wasn't just my fault Sully was stuck in there, it was everyone's fault.
"Calm down Mikey it's going to be ok." I looked behind me and saw it was Celia, I looked at her and felt ashamed. I stormed out of the building. I put my hands behind my head and looked at the sky. I had to clear my head. I had to find Sully. After a few minutes, I heard the door creak and looked next to me. I saw the reptilian creature next to me before he even said a word.
"Randall," I said.
"Hello, Mike, feeling rather upset are we?" I turned to him and he was grinning wide. I could feel myself about to punch him.
"Oh don't get too emotional over your friend, he'll be fine."
"Oh yeah and why's that?"
"Because inside that door isn't anything he can't handle. I should know, I helped install it." That was it. The last straw, I jumped onto Randall and pinned him to the ground. His eyes were wide and yet he was still smiling. I felt my fist curl as I was about to punch him.
"Wait wait wait!" He said. I held my fist to hear what he had to say.
"I know who ordered the fake door," I raised my eye and waited for him to proceed. "I don't know who it was," I raised my fist higher. "WAIT! I think it was someone in management. Fungus, he was talking about how the door was probably faulty because it had vines on it. That's like against the health code violation for doors. " Satisfied with his answer I got off of him and brushed myself off.
"So if you want to know who put in the door go ask Fungus." He then turned invisible, blending into the background, and slithered away. I never thought I would take advice from a snake, I regret taking his advice, mostly because it was what led me to more trouble.
I went into the building after a while. They had found the keys but wanted me to open the door since Sully was my best friend. I grabbed them out of a worker's hands and put them in the lock. I turned them and with a soft click the door was opened. I opened it wider and sitting on a log was Sully. He looked dirty and rougher than I'd ever seen him. He looked at me and rushed to give me a big hug, He smelled so terrible but it didn't matter I was just happy he was alive.
He asked me where were we and I told him the whole story. Everyone threw him a party, for being a life I guess. I tried to pay attention but my mind kept drifting to what Randall said. After the party when almost everyone had gone I found Fungus near the punch.
"Hello, Fungus," I whispered in his ear. He jumped up a bit and turned towards me. He smiled but when he saw I wasn't returning the favor stopped.
"H-Hey Mike, sure is good to have Sully back huh?" I nodded my head.
"Yes it is, listen Randall told me some...interesting information about you and I wanted to see if it was true." I looked him in his eyes. I stared at him and he gulped.
"Uh, what did he say?"
"Hey said that you were one of the people who set up the door that Sully went through."
"Oh yeah, I did. Along with Randall and Smitty." He now started to chew on his fingernails.
"Yes, you said something about how it was probably faulty because of the health violations it went against."
"Oh well yeah I mean usually kids don't have vines growing on their doors ya know?" He laughed a little and started to back away until he ran into the punch bowl. I got closer and closer to him.
"So why didn't you tell management? You knew the door was fake."
"Oh well it's just too much work and besides I doubt it was that bad," I now was so close to his face I could see every single pore.
"That bad? Surely you saw the state Sully was in. He was a wreck. I'll prove it to you Fungus, I'll show you just how bad that door is." I grabbed his arm and we ran towards the garbage pile. The faulty doors got placed here and would be disposed of in around a week. I hung the keys onto my horns and opened the door. Together we jumped through the door. I suppose it was as bad as Sully had said it was.
So, Sully, I'm sorry.
