Standing in the doorway JungKook looked past his sister and Miss Chen to stare at the covered body of his mom. The ladies looked at each other when a low moan came from the boy. Looking back at him they watch as he slid bonelessly to the floor. Jumping to her feet Yoonin vacated her chair as Miss Chen gathered the boy into her arms. Grief had turned him back into a child. The Big muscle-bound teenager looked so small as he laid half on the floor and half in the nurses' arms. "Come now child," Miss Chen said soothingly "It's okay. You're gonna be alright." Holding JungKook in her arms she supported but mostly dragged him to the chair. She petted his hair as he held her around the waist sobbing like Yoonin hadn't seen since childhood when they lost their dad.
Isn't that what we are? Kids! Yoonin thought. Aren't we both kids playing at being adults? Both of our parents are gone now. We have nobody left. Orphans! Isn't that the word they call kids with no family? Yoonin moved to the wall behind the chair, placing her hand on it. Trying to anchor herself to the world of sanctity. Watching her brother losing it was killing her. If he couldn't take it how will she ever have a chance to deal with her mother's passing? She would do the only thing that she had been doing today. That is to take one step at a time. And that is what she did, slowly using the wall to help balance, her knees weak she gradually made her way from the room.
Knowing if she didn't leave the room now that she would fail at being strong. Blocking out Kookies' Cries of sorrow. Leave the room now. She told herself. Hold on to the wall. Doing so she slipped out of the room. Don't turn around. Don't look. Cause if you do you are gonna find yourself laying across your mom's body. Begging her to come back. Pleading with the fates not to take her. Telling her that she can't leave.
It's better like this. Just make your way down the hall and grab the duffle bag out of the closet. Probably should leave the suitcase for Kookie. There were only a few things she wanted now anyway. Maybe the boys were right, too much history with everything now. In her room now with the bag on the bed, she gathered her photos and Rosco. Then grabbed her diary from the bedside table. Standing looking around the room trying to figure what else she would want.
Tea!
The tea. She needed to go and get the tea. She made her way slowly down the hallway in a daze toward the kitchen. Yoonin looked around at the faded paint on the cabinets. She remembered the day that the three of them painted those a pale yellow. They were so happy then. Playing with each other laughing and giggling at the fact there was more paint on each other than the cupboards. That was all over now. Just like the paint that has faded to a sickly off-white. The love in this family has to turn into some twisted form of a joke. With mom gone all that was left was pain. Gone were the days of a loving family, and gone are the days where she knew that her brother would take care of her. Gone were the days that he even liked her. She was alone now. Alone...
Looking around the kitchen she started to feel sick, clammy, and unsteady. She needed to get out. Out of the kitchen. Out of this house. Out into the open air where she could breathe. That's all she knew is she needed to get out. Making her way back to her room to collect her bag she didn't notice the change in the house. Kookie was no longer crying in her moms' room in fact it was quiet in there. She made her way to her bedroom only then to notice that her brother was looking at the bag with a strange gaze.
Yoonin stopped her forward progress, watching his face very carefully she said his name softly "Kook?"
Looking at the bag he asked "Where are you going? You just came home." looking from the bag to her face then back to the bag.
So lost. He looked so lost. He Turned quickly reaching for her. Wanting to hold her to let her know it would be alright. That he was gonna drop out of school so he could work more and they would be able to stay in the house. She didn't need to pack. That he would take care of everything. And most of all that he was sorry. That he hadn't meant to hurt her.
