A hiss traveled across the clearing as the Tom stepped into sight. Stormwhisker glared at his Calico brother as Sunshatter stalked through the entrance. He's back! How dare he waltz in here, no doubt having killed our leader! We should chase him off right now!  He sighed, knowing he wouldn't be any use in the chase. If only I was a warrior, I'd flay him!  The gray medicine cat bristled, but his anger was nothing compared to Owlbranch's Fury. "You! How dare you come back here!" The brown deputy yowled, his eyes burning with rage. "And what have you done to Houndstar?!" Sunshatter didn't even blink. "I'm here to finish what he started." The exiled warrior growled. "I'm not letting go of riverclan that easily." His voice was dripping with venom as he approached Owlbranch, turning his head to fix Stormwhisker with a dangerous glare. A glare that said, don't think you're safe. I'll come for you when it's time. Stormwhisker suppressed a shudder. Sunshatter turned back to the furious glare of Owlbranch. "You can't take over riverclan! We drove you out once, and we'll do it again! The whole of riverclan is on my side, and you have only yourself!" Several warriors, including Kindletail and Stormstrike, yowled agreement, but others looked doubtful. Stormwhisker was dismayed to see that Cherryblossom and her son Scorchpaw were among them. Surely not...

Sunshatter was yowling something at Owlbranch. "I'm not alone, you sorry excuse for a deputy; I've got friends!" He spat. "And I think you'll find that your oh so loyal clan isn't as 'on your side' as you would like to think." With one flick of his tail, and a last scathing glance at Stormwhisker, the medicine cat heard what he had been anticipating and dreading at the same time. Just two words, but they managed to cause a full-blown war. "Warriors, attack!"

Stormwhisker barely had a moment to think before the camp exploded into screeching cacophony. Warriors flew at each other, not knowing who believed what. Dark black clouds gleamed blood red as they smothered the sun. Stormwhisker shuddered. An omen, it had to be. He looked upon the approaching thunderclouds. A storm smothering the sun... Great starclan!  That couldn't possibly be. Could starclan mean that he  would be the one to stop Sunshatter? That was ridiculous! He was just a crippled medicine cat who couldn't even save himself from a little water. He cringed at the thought, and as rain poured around him, he couldn't help remembering the times when he was younger, water pressing against every side, filling his mouth and ears, surrounding him, drowning him...

He blinked himself back to the present. He was a Riverclan cat. He couldn't be afraid of water! Besides, I was just a kit then. I'm stronger. I can handle any storm. But the doubt would not subside. Can I handle the sun, though? And even if I could, would I have the heart to kill my own brother?  Worry crowded around Stormwhisker like the currents in river rapids, devouring all. I can't let this happen. I  Won't let this happen. I'll stop it. I have to. But how but how but how? It all seemed so complicated, the answers slid away from his claws like tiny beams of Moonlight, impossible to grasp onto. Like a kit swept downstream by the river current... Stormwhisker tried to forget, but it was hard. Stop that. I have to be strong. For the whole of riverclan, I must be strong.

But how?
