point of view - sano mamoru

it was fine really. my life i meant. it was just me, myself and i. my mom's dead, and my father left to buy some milk.

and he surely took his time alright.

because the next time that i saw him, is at his funeral.

"are you isamu's son?" . 'no im his father, what do you think?!'

"...i am.." i answered even though i don't even know who the person in the casket is. after all, do you expect a kid to remember to to even know you if your never there for him?

"oh dear god, im so sorry for your lost."

"..thanks.." the woman walked away from me. and i just look at the casket where my 'father' is. i don't even know on why im here. i mean, yeah im his son. his son that he left while im still in my mother womb.

"mamoru-kun," my father's co-worker, called me. "i want you to meet some people. come with me."

the faced them, and behind him is two female kids. "who?"

both of the girls have similar hair color: brown. and their eyes are well matched with their hair.

"these two kids are your younger sisters, sano mai and sano mei. their twins."

'excuse me but, what the fuck?' i just stared at the two brunettes, still trying to process the information this person gave the nine years old me.

"how are old are they?" i asked.

"we're five!" the girl in pigtails - mei answered, a big smile on her face. her smile is so big that it's as if she isn't in her father's funeral.

but then again, im older and more mature than them and im not even on the state of mourning right now.

"they have no one else, other than you mamoru-kun." father's co-worker added. patting mai's head.

"so, would you be a good big brother and look after them?"

but that's not the real question here. its that, why is she pretending to only be father's co-worker and leave her own daughters behind?

──

"what a shabby place you have, nii-san." mai stated the moment we entered my house - well, more like the house that im staying.

"can you not call it that so bluntly?"

"just saying the truth."

'how are you only five?'

"nii-chan!" mei called out, capturing me in her hug. "thank you for taking us in! your the best, big brother!"

'does she ever run out of energy?'

my life had changed so much after that. my life is no longer lonely. i have two sister to look after.

my life since then had become me, mai and mei. with a nice man named sakunosuke oda taking us three in. alongside with many other orphans.

he was a nice person, although he wasn't always there with us, because of his work, he always have a way to visit us. playing with us even if it's just for an hour or two.

but, then that happened.

"let go!" i struggled to get out of the older men grasp. "let go of my sisters, you old man!"

it was useless. the men threw us inside a van.

"nii-chan.." i hugged both mai and mei near me, while i look at whats inside the van other than us. it's a bomb.

the other kids are banging on the window, crying for help. while im just there, frozen in fear as the timer of the bomb slowly decreased.

"m-mai, mei, listen to me.." i whispered, "do you trust your brother?"

4

"y-yeah" mei sobbed.

3

"good."

2

'thank you for leaving me and my mother back then, father. because of that, i have two little sisters now.'

1

and then, the bomb exploded.
