last chapter without in person jesse, i promise
Finn was at his locker, but looked up in alarm when he saw his mother and Burt approaching, both with Dan and Kurt awkwardly squished in between them.
"Oh. What's going on?" Finn asked, raising an eyebrow. "Is this one of those interventions, 'cause—"
"If it is, it's for all three of us," Kurt told him. "They bombarded me and forced me to bring them to you."
"And pulled me from my morning soccer practice," Dan grumbled. "I need to be practicing. If we win our next game this weekend, that means we're in final game of the tournament. Best girls soccer team in the nation, baby."
The season had passed by quickly but also agonizingly slow, as Dan wished more than anything that Jesse was at the games.
"Okay, come on, tell 'em," Burt said to Carole excitedly.
"No, no, no, you. Come on."
"No. We said in the car."
"Come on, you, you."
"Somebody tell us," Dan said, wishing they'd get to the point.
"All right, so you know how I drive Carole to work every Tuesday?" Burt asked, smiling. "Well, today I drove here, and we snuck into that classroom where Kurt introduced us — very romantic of me, I might add — and I—"
"He proposed!" Carole interrupted excitedly, flashing her ring finger. "He proposed!l
Dan gasped and looked at the ring on her finger. The newly engaged couple shared a happy kiss.
"Wow. This just happened?" Finn asked, stunned.
"We wanted the three of you to be the first to know," Carole told them.
"Yeah, after the kids in that homeroom," Burt added, chuckling. "Come on, family hug, huh? Come on!"
The five of them hugged, knowing they were about to become closer than ever. As Dan hugged her father, she whispered in his ear, "I'm so happy for you."
"I'm so excited and - and nervous," Carole told them.
"Oh, don't be," Kurt told her, practically shaking with anticipation. "Oh, my God, this is just what I needed. I will take care of it from here. I have a trunk full of wedding magazines hidden under my bed. I'm thinking of a russet and cognac theme. Those are colors, Finn. Fall wedding colors. Autumnal."
Dan snorted at the blank look on Finn's face. He had hardly processed the news, and now Kurt was talking wedding colors with him.
"Nothing too extravagant, Kurt, okay?" Burt instructed. "We're gonna use whatever savings we have. We are spending it on the honeymoon. That's right. We're going to Waikiki. We're gonna go to the hotel where they put up the guest stars on Lost."
