My arms are in a tight fold and my forehead is scrunched as I walk to the dreaded bus stop. It's freezing outside. I can hear my feet crunching in the freshly frozen frost, and my toes have become numb. I imagine thoughts of summertime to warm myself up. My face is slightly sunburned and sweat drips down my forehead. I'm by a crystal blue pool with an iced lemonade in my hand. I can hear children splashing and laughing in the water. A Bob Marley song plays in the distance. I snap out of my fantasy as the bus doors screech open, snapping me back to this current reality. Everyone looks miserable and unwilling to sacrifice a spot of their seat for me. My only option is the floor. The bus tosses me with every bump and turn. I go back to my happy place. Anywhere but here.
Eloise is waiting for me as I get off because I sent her a series of messy rants this morning.
"Did you see the new episode of Shallows last night?" She greets me with a side hug and a bright smile. It's cute that she's trying to cheer me up.
"Episode? As in singular?" I responded wittily.
"I know right! Did you see Evan's abs? Bite me and turn me into a vampire already," Eloise said with her mind on Evan's incredible six-pack.
"Oh, you have to meet my new friend tonight," Eloise blurts out as she snaps out of her Evan obsession.
"Friend? What friend?" I responded cautiously yet curious to find out more.
"I met her in my philosophy class, her name is Luna. I told her we could hang out tonight. At the pier."
Luna? Philosophy? Pier? My thoughts are jumbled.
"Wow, I didn't know I had plans tonight, thanks," I groaned sarcastically. Although I'm apprehensive, I'm curious about this Luna character. What's the worst thing that could happen?
