A Little Calm in Wakanda

During the Falcon and the Winter Soldier

I woke up to Shuri leaning over me.

"Glad you came back to us." She told me.

"What happened?" I asked her as I reached for a cup of water. Shuri helped me sit up.

"You were hit by a car and your head was bounced off the sidewalk." She told me. "That was about four months ago." I looked up at her in shock. "You were suffering from a cerebral edema so you were put into a medically induced coma. I started bringing you out of it a week ago." She told me as she took my vitals.

"Where's Bucky? Is he okay?" I asked her as I started to panic.

"He is fine. He has visited you as often as he could. He was helping Sam with an online group called The Flag Smashers." She told me as she took a seat in a chair beside me. "I will let him know you are awake." She told me.

"Can I?" I asked her. She handed me my phone.

My hands were shaking as I clicked Bucky's name on my phone. I put it up to my ear.

"Hello?" He said hesitantly. "Kat, baby?"

"I'm awake," I told him.

"Oh my God.'' He said. Then he shouted to someone, "She's awake. How are you feeling?'' He asked me. "I'm putting you on speakerphone. Sam is with me."

"I am feeling okay. A little sock mouthy." I told them. "What's going on?"

"I will be right there, baby. I love you!" He said.

"Kat, it's Sam. It is so good to hear your voice." He said into the phone. I smiled.

"It's good to hear your voice too." I told him.

"Honey, I'll be right there. I love you!" Bucky told me as he disconnected his phone.

"Shuri," I called. "Can you help me get a shower?" I asked her.

"Certainly." She told me as she helped me up and into the shower. "I want you to put these on when you get out." She told me as she put a set of jammies on the counter. "I'll be right out here if ya need any help." She said. As I am getting dressed she told me that she was putting me in a private room but would like me to take it easy for a little while longer.

I must've fallen asleep because the next thing I knew Bucky was walking into my room with a smile on his face.

"Sweetness, it is so good to see you awake." He told me as he gathered me up in a hug.

"It's good to be seen." I laughed. "I am so glad you are here." I told him. He sat down in the chair next to the bed.

"Can I hold you?" He asked me.

"Always." I told him as I scooted over on the bed to make room. He wrapped his arms around me as I laid my head down on his chest. "How are you doing? What have I missed? Are you still in court-appointed therapy?"

"I am doing much better now that you are awake." He told me. "Well let's see." He said as he squeezed me in a hug. "Sam gave the shield to the Smithosian." I looked up at him in surprise. "And yes, I was pissed. We were already at odds because of what happened to you. He blamed me and of course I blamed myself." He said.

"I can't believe he gave up the shield." I said in disbelief.

"Me either, but he did." Bucky told me. "The government named a new Captain America. His name was John Walker. All military. He had a partner named Battlestar if you can believe that one." He said as he took a breath.

"I went after Sam to ask him why he gave up the shield and he was going after the head of this group called The Flag Smashers." He told me.

"Shuri told me you were helping Sam with them." I told him. "Please continue."
