Chapter 10

I went to change in the bathroom. My feet were still numb as I walked onto the tile floor of the bathroom. The cold barely reached my feet as I walked.

I looked in the mirror. It took all my strength not to cry at the girl I saw in the mirror. She was not the girl from last week.

My hair was matted, I had bruises all over my arms and legs, and I looked like death. My once bright hazel eyes were now dull and lifeless.

I walked out of the bathroom and laid on my bed. Jackson just sat on the edge and looked at me.

"Alex, hear me out. I lost my mind when I woke up and you weren't there. I searched the school top to bottom." Jackson said as he moved closer to me.

I sat up, with his help, to look him in the eyes.

"Alex, I went to hell and back. And now that I see what they did to you, I will protect you no matter the cost, even if I lose my life." He said holding his hand to my cheek. I looked into his eyes to see compassion.

"If we are being honest, I have something to tell you." I said taking a deep breath.

I was going to tell him that I still liked him. My heart was rapidly beating in my chest.

"I- I still like you." I said.

I was waiting for him to laugh in my face. I was waiting for him to leave and never talk to me again. When I looked at him he was smiling at me.

"I never stopped liking you," he said.

He leaned in and there I was kissing my ex-boyfriend.

The most cliché thought came to mind as we kissed, it felt like the world stopped around us. I held my hand on his shoulder.

The kiss felt like it ended all too soon when we pulled apart. We just looked at each other and he had the goofiest smile .

"You have now idea how long I have waited to do that," He said.

"Let's get some sleep," I said.

He started to get up but I grabbed his hand.

"You can stay in here."

I moved over to give him room on the bed. He laid down beside me and we just looked at each other in a comfortable silence. I closed my eyes and drifted into a fitful sleep.
