Capitolo 1
Welcome to Hazbin
***
You see it. The bright red sign that should have clearly indicated your final destination: "Hazbin Hotel". You blink and your throat goes dry. You were sure they had said "Happy Hotel" live on television...
You open the piece of paper in your pocket and check the address. As you do so, you look around, nervous and flustered, as if someone is following you, ready to pounce. The slightest noise, makes you wince on the spot, yet you know there is no one there. When you were alive there was not a single soul willing to look after you and your burdens. You died alone: not a relative, not a lover, not a friend, not even an enemy. Insignificant to the end, unable to expose yourself and open yourself to the judgement of others. Even now, as you stand still in the middle of nowhere, you are terrified of the opinion of others, of stares and whispers. You are a pathetic creature and you know it, but at the same time you don't want others to notice.
You grip the piece of paper tightly. Your hands are sweating and you keep nervously biting your lower lip. Aren't you there because you want to stop being so ridiculous? Because you finally want to find a place where you feel you belong?
Without realising it, you find yourself staring into the big eye that towers over the hotel. You turn pale. You feel panic slowly creep down your spine, making your knees wobble.
"Inside of every demon is a rainbow. Inside of every demon is a rainbow."
You repeat it like a mantra, with your eyes closed and your hands clasped to your chest, as if you find in those words some form of hope. You take a deep breath and force yourself to take a step towards the pavement leading to the entrance.
You seem to be looking at yourself from the outside of your body. You see yourself stopping in front of the large windows with the Magne symbol, while you notice that their apple is repeated with insistence on every decoration of the facade. You see yourself raising your hand and hesitating when the time comes to knock.
Your thoughts seem to be etched on your face. You feel exposed and you don't like it.
You withdraw your hand and start rubbing it with the other. You seem to brood to yourself until you conclude that Charlie seems like a nice person, someone who won't shut the door in your face. You hope so, at least.
You hear a voice inside you, calling you a loser. You've done enough to end up in hell and now, as if you haven't hit bottom enough, you find yourself begging once again. Begging for someone to give you an ounce of attention and affection. It's your drug and you know you'll do anything to get a fix. You're like a moth drawn to the flame, despite knowing you're going to get burned.
