It's October in Toad Town, and that means it's getting chilly. The sea breeze doesn't help much, either. Ode isn't much of a fan, as it turns out.

He shivers easily, he's found. Every morning he wakes up, and every morning he pulls on another coat so he can stop feeling so shaky. You'd think he might be used to the cold, after everything, but it just seems to hit him harder.

Though, he's never dealt with the morning's chill alone. Felix is often up early, with the new semester's classes to teach. And luckily for Ode, the professor has always been willing to lend him a hand. Granted, that hand is most often used in a literal sense as something to hold, but the sentiment is certainly there.

One morning, possibly a Tuesday, he finds himself awake before his partner. Usually Felix's alarm wakes them both, given how he needs to set it up, but it appears that isn't the case today. So he gets out of bed, pulls on his coat(s), stretches quickly, and heads down to make coffee.

Down the hall, past the front door, and through the doorway a tiny bit to the right, Ode makes his way into the kitchen. He grabs a couple of mugs, and starts some water. He probably isn't the best at making coffee, not by any means, but he's at least practiced enough to work fairly quickly.

The water boils, and he hears a shrill and repetitive beeping start, before it's quickly silenced. A minute or two later, once he's poured the water, he sees Felix walk in. He isn't very groggy, but he still hasn't done anything to properly get ready for the day. His hair's still messy, even.

He looks at Ode, glances at the mugs for a moment, and then back at Ode. "Sorry, did I wake you up early?"

" No, I suppose it's probably just one of those mornings. " He indicates the two mugs beside him. " Any add-ins or anything, or just black?"

"Just black," he says, taking one of the mugs. "D'you have any plans for the day?"

" Not particularly, assuming I haven't forgotten something. " He takes the other mug, and stirs in the cream and sugars. When he takes a sip it's exactly how it always is, and that itself is something wonderful. He leans against the counter, beside his partner, and takes a moment to brush his hand through the man's hair. It doesn't catch much, his hair is short enough to generally avoid tangles, but it's still messy. Immediately afterwards he takes another moment to kiss Felix's cheek, because why wouldn't he?

Ode can feel the little smile on his partner's face as he does so, and he's once again reminded how full of love he is for this man. Instead of giving voice to that particular thought, though, he takes another sip of his coffee, which is honestly still a bit too hot. While of course the morning will end and the day will eventually begin for the both of them, that doesn't stop the morning from being wonderful.
