Skyler Baker
I'm on the freeway between Florida and Miami Beach. There are a few cars on the road, but not as many as I expected. It's early in the summer break, the sun is shining, and the sky is clear. This is going to be a hot summer.
I'm dressed in black shorts, a black belt, and a cute white spaghetti-strap top with an open cleavage. I'm also wearing my favorite black sunglasses. My dark brown hair is smooth on my shoulders; it is usually curly, but I had some spare time before we left to straighten it.
Vera, my best friend, is in the passenger seat. She is dressed in blue shorts, a black belt, and a classy black halter top. Her hair is pulled back into her signature high ponytail. She's also wearing the same black sunglasses I'm wearing.
Liam and Lily are in the back seat. Lily is Vera's twin sister, and she is the quietest of the bunch, if not all of us. Lily and Vera are polar opposites in appearance and personality. Unless you already knew, you'd never guess they were twins.
Lily is dressed in a floral wrap skirt in pink and white. In addition, she is wearing a white spaghetti-strap top. Her long blonde hair is neatly wrapped around her shoulders and almost reaches her lap. Liam is dressed simply in a red swimming trunk and black sunglasses. He claims that the first thing he and the boys will do when we arrive is "chug a bottle of vodka and jump in the ocean, 'cuz it's Miami baby!"
Except for Liam, I don't know any of the guys who are joining us. In the other car, there were three more boys. They are all Liam's friends. I believe they used to be roommates.
We're on our way to my family's beach house near Miami Beach. We've been driving for a couple of hours, but now we're only 15 minutes away from our destination. My phone suddenly rings, and the only thing on the display is "Unknown."
"Hello?" I say after answering and pressing the speaker icon.
"Hey, the whole gang is starving." A desperate voice says, "We've been driving for hours."
"What?"
"It's Niall," Liam says from the backseat.
"Okay, we could stop at a restaurant or something," I say.
"Where?"
"I'm not sure, just pick one along the road."
"Sure, see ya," Niall says as he hangs up the phone. I can see him changing lanes and speeding up next to me in my side mirror. The next thing I see is a car driving past me with two boys in the back seat of a blue convertible car waving their hands in the air.
"I guess they're hungry," Vera says next to me, laughing.
I pick up the pace and follow Niall. A large green sign with the words "Miami Beach" in big letters appears. We turn right and drive towards the beach.
Auther Note:
This is my first novel, and it is the first one I've ever written and published. I hope you enjoy it, and please share your thoughts by liking, voting, and commenting :)
Because I enjoy drawing, I intend to include a drawing at the beginning of each chapter. It takes some time to draw, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to include it in every chapter, but I'll try.
I'll try to post every Friday from now on, so keep an eye out for new chapters. Some will be short, while others will be long. Love y'all <3
