I wasn't really sure what I was gonna walk into seen as how the party had been going on for two hours already. Kristen and I walked downstairs and were immediately greeted by Tyler and his friend. I will admit, Kristen was right. He is hot. I was eye level with his shoulders and I was wearing my platform boots so if I had to guess, he's at least 6'3". He's got brown, curly hair, which normally, I don't like curly hair, but damn it looked good on him. His eyes are the color of the ocean and I would definitely find myself lost in them. He's got a "dad bod" and Kristen knows I go crazy for guys like that. I guess I was staring for a little too long because Kristen called me out on it.
"You know, you could at least tell him your name before staring at him like a creep." she laughed. I extended my hand. My dad always told me to shake someone's hand when you meet them. He was weird and strict about stuff like that.
"Hi, I'm Roxanne. But please, call me Roxy. I hate when people call me by my full name." He shook my hand. He had a strong grip.
"I'm Josh." he laughed. "I guess there's not really a way to shorten my name so you can just call me Josh." Chris walked over by us and handed me a cup.
"Here. Down it and I'll go make you another one." Before I could take the drink from him, Josh grabbed it out of his hands and nearly spilled it all over me.
"You can't just walk up to random girls and hand them drinks. That's not how this works." he hissed. Chris tensed up immediately. I could see it in his eyes. There was fire and anger. Probably left over from everything that went down with Sam no more than two hours before. Oh, not to mention the girl he was in love with was flirting with someone else. He dropped his drink and raised his hand. I knew if I didn't step in a fight was gonna break out in our living room. I stepped in between them and faced Chris.
"Dude, you've gotta calm down. You're drunk and pissed off about everything with Sam. Let's take a walk." I glanced back at Josh and gave him an 'I'm sorry' look as I led Chris outside. We walked around outside for a while and I could tell he was still tense.
"What's up with you tonight? You just seem on edge." I asked. I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't tell me. He never like talking about his feelings.
"Well, for starters, Kristen is flirting with that idiot Tyler. I know you already know how I feel about her." Shit, my cover is blown. Chris had never actually admitted to liking Kristen, I just kind of knew. I couldn't keep their feelings for each other a secret anymore. I had to tell one of them.
"Jesus Christ Chris. Maybe if you weren't such an idiot you would have realized a long time ago that she likes you too." He stopped dead in his tracks.
"What did you say?"
"I said..." Chris cut me off.
"I know what you said. But what? How long have you known?" he hissed. Now he was mad at me. Great. I had taken a couple steps in front of Chris before I realized he had fully stopped so he was talking to my back. I turned around.
"She's liked you since we were kids. I figured out that you liked her a couple years ago." He immediately turned around and started running back towards the house. Normally I wouldn't have been able to keep up with him but he was drunk and I was pretty much sober so I was only a few feet behind him. He ran into the house yelling Kristen's name. I could handle Chris being mad at me about not telling them, but I knew Kristen was gonna be hurt. That's something I wasn't ready for. Kristen had her back turned towards us but Chris spotted her right away.
"Chris what's with the yelling?" she turned around and her eyes got wide when she realized he was running towards her. He stopped right in front of her, their faces no more than two inches apart. Kristen looked over Chris's shoulder towards me. I gave her the look. We've had that looked planned out for years. It was the look that told her he finally confessed his feelings. I guess she wasn't really expecting it because her jaw dropped to the floor. She looked back at Chris and before I knew it, he kissed her. I never expected to be happy for them. I always hated the idea of them together, but tonight, it just felt right. I grabbed a full bottle of Vodka and cranberry juice, a glass, and walked outside.
