They came out of nowhere a few years ago and took over the world in one night. Humans didn't stand a chance against them. They had stayed hidden for millennias but couldn't stand the destruction that we had caused to the Earth so they had decided to interfere. Overnight we were no longer the top of the food chain.

The old fairytale stories weren't even close to the true nature of the vampire species. Some stories and movies were close but also so far away from the truth. It shocked a lot of people to see that they could walk in the sun, eat real food (also drank blood), could have children and so much more. Millions of them owned businesses, homes right next door and millions more had stayed secluded from humans.

The rumors of vampires from all around the world were true but no one ever took them seriously until it was too late. With all of our wars, fighting, crime, disease and poisoning the earth, we were on the brink of annihilation and didn't even know it. The tipping scale of no return was just around the corner until they surfaced. Now with them in control, the earth is slowly recovering, they have even brought back species that were extinct due to humans. Their technology is far more advanced than ours, that is part of why they were so victorious.

My story starts with three of them coming into my bar during an investigation and one of them trying to take my daughter. It all started a few months after me and my husband had just finished building the new bar on the back half of our property. We had posted that only humans could come in as a safe place for them to relax and detox from dealing with vamps all day. Our daughter had just started her shift when several vamps walked in and sat at one of her tables.

She was very hesitant to go over because she had never had direct contact with one of them before and didn't want to do anything to draw attention to the bar from the council. We had gotten permission from the local council to prohibit vamps from coming in. These three looked like they were not going to take kindly to being asked or told to leave.

One looked directly at me and smirked when he saw how I was standing in defiance. He nudged the one to his left and spoke to him while still staring at me. My husband came to stand beside me. "Angel you can't be like that around them, they are so easy take offence for the slightest thing and will demand retribution. Think of Leigh and Marie, what might happen to them."

I eased my stance into a more relaxed one but kept my hands on hips. The first one smiled even more at my little bit rebellion which drew the scrutiny of the other two. "Gary, I will not have them disrupting my bar with their presence. The council said that we had the right to tell them to leave and I intend to do so right now. The third one keeps staring at Leigh in a way that I am very uncomfortable with. I will put an end to it right now."

With that I move from behind the bar and head straight for their table. Leigh is standing there uncertainly as I approach. She keeps dodging the hands of the third vamp while the other two are watching me move closer.

"Leigh, please go see to one of your other tables. I'm sure you can find someone who is thirsty over there." She walks away quickly to another table where a couple of regulars are sitting. I tune out the chatter and focus solely on the vamps.

"Sirs, I will ask that you leave as soon as you are finished with whatever you ordered. I will get it for you but after that you will leave my bar. What are you having tonight....my daughter is off the menu." I glance at the third one who is still looking at Leigh as if she is his last meal that he will ever have.

"Mrs. Costell, we do not mean any disrespect towards you or yours but we have business here. There are vamps killing locals and we can't have that. We have been sent by the council to find out who is attacking, draining and killing the people of El Paso. If you would be so kind as to take a seat so that we can speak quietly about this matter." He jesters toward the chairs to his right and waves over Shawn.
