The next day was a tedious and painful day for the McClure family. The police arrived at the house and officers were interrogating the family. Everyone was standing outside their house, crying and Amy couldn't understand what was happened. Jenny and Joanne were still in absolute shock and everyone tried to calm them but weren't able to.
James' body was taken to a hospital and was sadly pronounced dead. The toxicology report was yet to come so both the police and the McClures didn't know the reason of James' death.
The police found that James was hit with something on the back of his head which caused bleeding which might had led to his death but they did not draw conclusions right away. But everyone knew that he was murdered.
"What were you all doing yesterday?" asked the police officer to John.
"Yesterday was the birthday of our Amy here. We went to the mall, ice cream parlour and had a big feast. Then we watched a baseball match but James went to bed early as he was tired. And thing after we finished watching the match and Joanne found James.... lying unconscious in a pool of blood."
"Was James acting weird or something like that?"
"I don't think so. He was quite fine yesterday."
"Did he some some issues or a rival who could hurt him?"
"Not that I know of. His business was flourishing and he was an honest businessman."
"He was the editor of a newspaper called Hollsway Gazette along with his wife Joanne McClure right?"
"Yes that it right."
"Okay. I'm going to go ask her some questions. Sorry for your loss."
"Yes thank you."
The police officer went to Joanne who was still crying and cleared his throat to get her attention.
"Hi. I'm Officer Bailey. Would you mind answering some questions?"
"Ye-Yes sure.." said Joanne wiping her tears.
"Did your husband seem unusual the days before he....?
"No.."
"Did he have any business issue or was there some problem with the Hollsway Gazette?"
"Not that I know of. The newspaper was perfectly fine and we did not have any financial issues."
"Okay. Well, I'll ask some questions to the others... and I am very sorry for your loss Mrs. McClure."
Joanne shook her head to that. Officer Bailey went over to the other McClures and asked them some questions but no one really had anything to say. The police soon left the McClure house and then everyone went back inside the house.
The desolated family settled in the living room and then John said, "What happened was horrid and I still can't come around this."
Everyone nodded and sobbed.
"What about his funeral?" asked Luke in a low voice.
"We will have a funeral once we know what happened and everything is normal." said Joanne.
"I don't think it is safe to stay here. Perhaps we should stay at The Hollsway Hotel for a few days. I know it won't be easy though." suggested Martin.
"I think you are right." said Linda and the rest agreed.
"Everyone, pack your bags. We leave tomorrow."
With that everyone went to their rooms and started packing their suitcases.
