"Mom, can Zoe and I go out for a swim?" I shouted to my mom.
"It's dark out and it's late," she responded.
"It's only 8:30 and we will only stay out for an hour, I promise."
"Fine, but make sure to turn on all the pool lights."
"Thanks!" I said and we ran out to the pool. It was the Fourth of July and Zoe was sleeping over at my house. My family never really had a big party, but our neighbors always did amazing fireworks at 9:00 and the best place to see them was at our pool. My dad was away on a business trip to California so it was just my mom, Zoe and me. It was a gorgeous, clear night in Hawaii perfect for night swims, which Zoe and I did a lot. It was are favorite time to swim because it was so peaceful and we didn't have to worry about putting any sunscreen on.
"I wish I had hair like yours," I said to Zoe as she took her brown, wavy hair out of the ponytail. It landed right below her shoulders and was always so shiny.
"Are you serious Bethany? You know I have always been envious of your hair. Everyone wants blond straight hair." I looked down at my hair, which was a little above my waist and realized what Zoe said was true. Everyone always said to me that my hair complements my blue eyes and fair skin really nicely. However, sometimes I wish that my skin wasn't so fair because I get sun burned really easily. Zoe had perfect olive colored skin and dark brown eyes.
"I guess your right," I responded.
"Now come on we are wasting our one hour," Zoe said right before she cannonballed into the pool. I followed right behind her and did the same. Whenever I get into the pool I always like to swim in the deep end. In my pool, that happened to be eight and a half feet deep. Zoe and I swam around a bit, racing back and fourth. After about 25 minutes we both got up on the seat that was in the pool. Soon after the fireworks began. Right when the first firework went up the pool got really hot.
"What the heck, do you feel that?" I asked Zoe.
"Yeah," Zoe replied. The pool kept getting hotter and hotter and tell it started stinging. Zoe and I jumped out of the water. I ran to the heater and the temperature of the pool was going up 5 degrees every minute yet the temperature outside wasn't changing at all. Then all of the sudden it stopped rising at just dropped back to normal.
"Come let's get back in," I said as I jumped in. The fireworks continued for 5 more minutes. Afterwards, Zoe and I swam around for another half hour and then decided to get out. We dried off and went inside. We both grabbed a brownie, that my mom had just made, and went up to my room.
"What was up with your pool?" Zoe asked.
"I don't know. That was really weird. It's never happened before," I replied. After that we both took a shower and went to bed.
