Chapter 14: Mixed feelings

She was going to kiss me. I was going to pull her in when...

My phone rang and I froze. Sam turned red and I'm pretty sure I was red too. She got off of me and I sat up to get my phone. It was Matteo. "Hey" Maya whispered. "Hey sorry we're you busy?" Matteo asked. (Yes, yes she was busy.) "Not no more. Why?" Maya glanced towards sam who was sitting in front of her. "Mom and dad are bickering again and I don't know what to say anymore" He sighed. Maya knew that conversations with them were practically pointless it's not like they were really listening anyways. "Okay I'll be home soon bye." She hung up. There was awkward tension no denying that. Maya looked at sam before opening her mouth "it was my brother. He's alone with my parents and he's running out of thing to say so I have to go home." Maya got up and offered her hand to help Sam up from the floor. "Oh okay that's fine" Sam avoided eye contact. "Sorry we have to leave early. I didn't want the night to end yet." Maya sighed walking with Sam to the car. As maya opened the car door, Sam suddenly felt confident. "So let's not end the night" Sam turned to look maya in the eyes. "What?" Maya turned feeling Sam's glaze. "I could spend the night. We could watch a movie or something if you want" Sam smiled. "I would like that" Maya smiled back and began driving towards her house.

Maya pulled into the drive way, turning off the car. They both got out and entered the house. "Heyy I'm home!" Maya shouted setting her keys down. "Well then I guess everyone's asleep" Maya laughed turning to Sam who smiled. "Let's just go to my room" Maya began walking up the stairs as Sam followed.

"You could get on the bed if you want" Maya gestured towards her bed. "Right sorry" Sam sat on the corner. "It's okay" Maya laughed. "So what do you want to watch?" She turned on the Tv. "Whatever you want is good" Sam shyly smiled. "Let's watch bring it on: fight to the FINSH" Maya exclaimed. Sam looked at Maya all excited and began to laugh. "what? It's the best bring it on movie that and bring it on all or nothing" Maya said proudly before putting the movie.

As they watched the movie in silence she couldn't help but wonder what would have happened if Matteo didn't call her at exactly that moment. I think we would have kissed but it's crazy. I don't know I never thought of her like that and I don't think she'd think of me as more than just friends.

I looked over to see Sam entertained. I continued to watch the movie.

In the morning Maya and Sam were all nice and cuddled under the blanket. "Mayaaa" Her family called from downstairs. Maya woke up and saw how they were sleeping. She smiled and got out of bed. "I'm uppp" Maya shouted as she went down the stairs. "Do you always sleep til noon" her mother questioned. "Just on the weekend" Maya shrugged. "What it kill you to have gotten ready before coming downstairs?" Her mother continued to add. This is how she was. Everything she said was a complain. "So what happened why'd you call me?" Maya questioned ignoring her mom's comments. "It's our last day here and your mom wants to go to church together as a family" Said maya's dad. "Right now?" Maya and Matteo questioned at the same time. "At 4" Their mother said before leaving the house. "He there on time and dress nicely please." And with that they were gone.

Maya looked at Matteo like she was about to complain. "I know I don't want to go either." Matteo said. "It's not church it's mom. She's very much a hypocrite" Maya sighed sitting by the counter. "Yeah but at least they are leaving after this." Matteo said sounding hopeful. "And then it's back to sleeping til noon on weekends without being judged." Maya said laughing. "That is a problem though" Matteo added. "Yeah yeah. I'm gonna go get ready then and we make breakfast" Maya suggested. "Yeah I'll get ready too" Matteo said taking a glass of orange juice upstairs.

Sam began to slowly wake up and realized that Maya wasn't there. Sam sat in the bed trying to actually wake up. Maya walked in and saw Sam. "Hey Sam sorry my parents had called me downstairs." Maya shrugged. "Hey it's okayyy" Sam sighed. "Now I have to get ready to go to church with my mom." She complained as she grabbed her clothes. "That reminds me do you want me to take you home right now or after breakfast?" Maya asked remembering that she was Sam's ride. "It's okay my mom called me she said she's at the market around the corner so she'll pick me." Sam smiled. "Oh okay. You can wash your face or borrow clothes if you need to." Maya smiled.

Maya hopped in the shower. The hot water always feels good on her skin. She had a long day a head of her but she had prepared herself as best as she could. She loved her mom of course like any child would. It's just she sometimes wondered if her mother loved her. It's like every visit was to bring her down or something. Maya got out the shower and wrapped the towel around her body and a wore a robe on top to be warm. Sam had already left so she just locked the door and began to get ready. Dress nicely. Was the only thing Maya had in mind. She didn't exactly have church clothes but she was going to find something.

Finally she found a white dress that she matched with black boots and wore her cross necklaces. Maya then went to check if Matteo was ready. Knocking on the door "you ready?" She asked. "Almost" He called out.

She started to make a simple breakfast for the 2. Matteo came downstairs and they ate. "Are you driving or-" Maya began to ask before Matteo interrupted. "I'm driving" Maya rolled her eyes. "Okay fine." And the two then left the house
