The Loneliest Whale...

I was just lazily floating through space with my pod, when a sudden panic broke out near the front, my family and friends scattering everywhere. We Iridescent Space Whales are usually slow moving creatures, but can be fast when needed. My mother nudged me to follow her and so I did, but we were separated from the rest of the pod by a sudden meteor shower.

These planets were strange... We had never been past them before, one with gigantic rings, two blue ones, a smaller red one and... A peculiar one. This one was kind of like the red one but, blue and green and had clouds! I floated a little closer, intrigued by this different little planet, it was, Mesmerizing... My mother grumbled a groan at me, warning me to not get to close to the planet. I squeaked in return, not really listening to her. I floated closer and felt a little... Tug... A stronger tug... A sudden yank! Snapped me out of my daydreaming state, as I squealed at my mother, calling for help! She bellowed in return, turning just in time to see me falling to the planet below. The last thing I heard, was my mother's pained bellows and groans as a darkness overtook my vision...

Darkness...

A cool, calm, eerie darkness...

'Where am I?', I clicked, hoping for a reply... But none came... I looked above and saw little glimmers of light swaying calmly, beautifully. I moved my flippers like I would in space and found this substance to be similar to my home. I swiftly made my way to the surface and was startled to see the inky black abyss and star speckled landscape that I call home. I squeaked and squealed with all my might! But no answer came from home... I sunk down in the strange substance and started to swim in a random direction, still keeping near the surface. Six small, clicking creatures zoomed by me, playing and having fun. They squealed at each other paying no heed to me. I clicked to them, asking where I was. They stopped dead, turning to me with shocked squeals and asking how I knew their language. I told them that it was my old pod that taught me and that I had gotten separated from them. The creatures looked at each other with pity in their eyes, before their leader spoke up and told me that he could direct me to a pod of 'Blue Whales', whatever they are... After a while of swimming, we reached them. They looked just like me! Sort of... I thanked the little creatures as they sped off and I squealed to these whales. They looked at me warily and turned to leave. One of them, the leader I think, groaned like mother, but much deeper, shaking my three hearts. I tried to copy the sound, but ended up with it sounding more like mother. But the whales swam off, leaving me to wail sadly and all alone...

But that was eons ago. I have adapted nicely to this planet. The oceans being my home now and having the company of the giant squids and smaller dolphins, as I later found out their names. Life is good and I have all the food I want, since I live off of moon and starlight. I still sing my song, the higher pitched bellow than a blue whale's, but I'm happy. The strange creatures of this planet seem to like my call, I heard from the dolphins that they call me 52 Hertz, the Loneliest Whale.
