I slowly wake up to the sun beaming across my face. I groan and turn on my side to escape it, covering myself with the quilt. My eyes open and I look over at my phone, seeing its half seven in the morning. God my head hurts. I force myself to sit up and get out of bed, running my fingers through my messy hair.

I make my bed and then go into the bathroom, brushing my teeth and having a quick shower before drying my hair and getting dressed. Once I'm done getting ready I grab my phone and sit on the bed, seeing that I got a text from my dad.

Dad: you better find her today.

I click my phone off and sigh. He's not normally like this, it must be his condition getting to him. Grabbing my phone and my keys, i walk out the room and lock it and walk down some stairs and to my car. I get in and drive my way to the Mystic Grill once more, feeling my nerves rise up in my chest.

I park up but I don't get out straight away. I feel pretty nauseous right now. Closing my eyes, I grip my steering wheel and take a deep breath in and then out. I unbuckle my seat belt and get out of the car, walking in the building.

I walk in, making sure I'm not in anyone's way before I pause. I can feel someone staring at me. I look around before finally seeing who it is on my right. I see Damon with the two girls that came in yesterday when I was leaving by the pool table. I meet Damons eyes, seeing him smirk and wave sarcastically. I raise an eyebrow, amused by his actions. So he's watching me now.

I just smile and send him a small wave before turning my focus back in front of me. I walk towards the bar to see Matt behind there once more, talking with a lady. She has a sheriff uniform on and I stop walking a few steps away from her. Matt gestures towards me and the lady turns around, coming face to face with me. I think this is Liz.

I don't speak a word, but her eyes widen a little and she steps forward. She seems to already know who I am already. She scans my face and takes my hand, catching me off guard.

"Are you June's daughter?" She asks and i nod, seeing her smile and she gives me a gentle hug.

It feels really comforting honestly. I let myself untense and I hug her back. She breaks away and leads me over to a table, letting me sit down before sitting opposite me.

"I'm so glad to meet you." She smiles and I nod, smiling as well.

"It's crazy finally meeting you Elizabeth." I manage to say before the blonde girl walks up to us.

"Mum-"

"Caroline please, not now." Liz sighs and Caroline looks at me.

"Sorry to interrupt but I need to talk to my mum." She says and my eyes widen.

"Elizabeth is your mum?" I question and she fake smiles.

"Well yeah, so excuse me-"

"Caroline please, give me a minute." Liz insists and Caroline huffs, heading back over to her friends.

"I'm so sorry, she's been really stubborn lately." She tries to explain and i try to assure her.

"It's fine honestly." I say and look at Caroline, seeing her complaining to Damon and the others.

I see Damon looking at me suspiciously, making me smile to myself. I murmur under my breath, so Liz doesn't hear me, and make Damons sleeve catch on fire. The other girl manages to put it out by pouring her water on him and i smirk to myself. All their eyes turn to me and i just look away, taking a sip of the water that the waiter gave us for free.

"I forgot to ask your name-"

"It's Xael, Xael Lazuli." I answer and she smiles.

"How old are you?" She questions me and i lean back in my chair.

"I turn eighteen in a few weeks. My dad thought it was the right time for me to look for you since I'm basically an adult." I say and she nods, listening to me.

"I never told Caroline about you or June, i figured it was best for everyone."

"Of course. I completely understand that." I smile at her, showing her I'm not mad.

A figure suddenly looms next to us and i glance up, seeing the silent brother from yesterday. He looks even better in the early sunlight. He looks down at Liz, smiling and i can feel my heart speed up a little.

"Sheriff I assume that since you're sitting here that you've spoken to Stefan Salvatore." He says, his voice deepening and i look to Liz to see her worn out.

"It's half eight in the morning, i will speak to him later." She says and he lowers his face near hers.

"I advise you to do so, and quickly, otherwise heads will roll." He demands and Liz stands, saying she's going to order coffees before walking away.

I turn to the man and let my expression turn grim.

"Who are you to speak to her like that?" I say, seeing him sit down and look into my eyes.

"I don't think you understand love-"

"No, obviously it's you who doesn't understand." I lean on my table, narrowing my eyes at him, "she said she'll talk with whoever and she seems like the kinda lady to keep her word, so don't pressure her."

The man stays silent for a moment before getting closer and i hold my breath. I look into his eyes once more to see them searching for something.

"People don't talk to me like that and get away with it, so I suggest you watch your tone." He says and i glare at him, standing up.

"You suggest I do? I don't give two damns what you suggest, maybe if you're nicer I'll be as well." I start to walk away but he grabs my wrist, stopping me completely.

He pulls me back to him and i pull on my wrist but it's useless. He stares me down, making me finally stop trying to get out of his. We're close enough that I can feel his light breathing pass my face, making me halt my own.

"Why are you in mystic falls?" He keeps the eye contact, making me look up at him.

Is he trying to compel me? I've never met a vampire but my mum told me all about them, i thought she was lying. I lean in close and smirk the tiniest bit.

"It's not that hard to work out." I answer and he looks a little surprised, something he's not used to feeling I'm sure.

I pull away from him and go to the exit before I hear Liz call out to me.

"Xael?" She stops me from walking any further and i fake a smile as I turn to face her.

"Can i meet up with you later? I'm not feeling good right now." I mumble and she smiles understandingly after glancing at the man.

"We can meet up for dinner, I'll bring Caroline along so you two can meet officially."

"That sounds nice, thank you." As I respond to her, she hands me my coffee and I let a small smile appear on my face.

"I'll meet you here around six, okay?" I nod, wanting to leave because I can feel the man staring at me.

I say goodbye before nearly running out of the grill. I felt like I was about to suffocate in there with all the tension I was getting from that man. I still can't figure out where he's familiar from, it's really pissing me off.

I head towards my car, shoving my hand in my pocket to get the keys but I clumsily drop them onto the pavement. I bend down, picking them up and nearly jumping out of my skin when I see Kol leaning on my car in front of me.

"Have you seen my brother anywhere?" He questions and i nod.

"Yeah he's in there." I point towards the grill and Kol pushes himself off the car.

He sends me a smirk but not a flirty one, more like a murdery one with his eyes narrowed slightly. I back away as he takes one step forward.

"Thanks." Kol replies before heading into the building, making me breathe out a sigh of relief.

What exactly have I gotten myself into here?
